Boys’ Bathroom Tour: A Bright, Practical Space
Last week I showed the small laundry room downstairs. Today we continue past the washer and dryer into the boys’ bathroom — a bright, functional room that, with a few small changes, became a comfortable, everyday space for the family.

The room is nicer than you might expect for a secondary bathroom. It has a long vanity with ample under-sink storage, and a window on the back wall that brings in plenty of natural light during the day. At night, bright vanity lights make the space practical for morning routines and homework-time quick washes.

Over time the space gradually became the boys’ bathroom — not because it was forced, but because the finishes and functional layout worked well for their needs. The long, uninterrupted countertop means two kids can get ready at once; deep drawers and cabinets hide everyday clutter and keep counters looking tidy.

One of my favorite features is the built-in shelving beside the vanity. Those shelves make organization simple — towels, baskets for toiletries, and a few decorative objects fit neatly without crowding the sink area. Built-ins like these maximize vertical space and help keep bathroom essentials within reach.

There’s even a dedicated spot for a laundry hamper, which helps control the flow of dirty clothes and keeps the floor clear. Having a designated place for laundry reduces the temptation to pile clothes on chairs or counters, and it streamlines the morning-to-evening rhythm of a busy household.

To add personality, I hung a few colorful boat prints and leaned into a loose nautical theme. Art is an easy, inexpensive way to warm up a room and make it feel finished. A few well-placed pictures can change the mood from plain and functional to inviting and characterful without major renovation.

Finally, a practical win: we figured out an easy way to keep the glass shower doors clean. A regular squeegee after each shower, combined with an occasional deep clean using a mild vinegar solution or a gentle commercial cleaner, keeps water spots and soap scum to a minimum. Consistent, simple maintenance prevents buildup and preserves the clarity of the glass.
This bathroom is a reminder that thoughtful storage, good lighting, and a few decorative touches can transform a small, secondary room into a well-loved part of the home. Whether you’re designing a boys’ bathroom or updating a shared family space, focus on durable finishes, accessible storage, and simple routines that make daily life easier.
