How to Arrange Flowers in a Ginger Jar Vase

Create a cheerful spring centerpiece or a fresh home accent using a blue-and-white ginger jar vase filled with faux flowers.

The weather fooled me a few weeks ago. The sun was bright and the sky was clear, and for a moment I convinced myself spring had arrived. Inspired by a clever idea for how to arrange tulips, I decided to put together an Easter flower arrangement using a blue-and-white ginger jar and an assortment of faux tulips and other artificial blooms I had on hand.

When I looked at arrangements that caught my eye, two design elements stood out: a full, lush look and tulips that appear to spill naturally out of the vase. Those two features guided how I built this look, and you can recreate it easily with faux flowers that hold their shape and color season after season.

How to make a ginger jar flower arrangement with artificial flowers

You don’t need to be a skilled florist to make a beautiful arrangement. I’m not an expert either, but here’s the simple method I used to achieve a full, natural-looking ginger jar centerpiece:

  1. Start with the tallest stems. Place the tallest faux flowers in the vase first and angle a few so they bend slightly, suggesting movement and giving the arrangement height and visual interest.
  2. Add tulips next. If the tulip stems are short, insert them one at a time in a criss-cross pattern across the center so the stems support each other and the cluster reads full and natural.
  3. Create the spilling effect. Once the center feels full, place tulips and longer stems near the edges and gently bend them downward so they look like they’re spilling over the sides of the ginger jar.
  4. Fill gaps with filler flowers and greenery. Small filler blooms, buds, or soft greenery soften the transitions between focal flowers and disguise any empty spots.

I loved how the ginger jar arrangement looked as a centerpiece, so I set the table to create a full Easter tablescape. I mixed a vintage china set with cheerful linens in coordinating blue and yellow tones to echo the colors in the vase and flowers. The combination of pattern and texture—ruffled placemats, checked napkins, and classic plate designs—keeps the table engaging without feeling overworked.

Just as I was about to photograph the finished table, the weather turned—first a snowstorm, then a stretch of slow, steady rain. So much for an early spring—but the table sat ready indoors, a small reminder of sunny days to come.

When the sun returned, I grabbed my camera and captured the table styling. The finished look pairs the ginger jar centerpiece with layered plates, colorful napkins, and a few small accents for an approachable Easter display.

Although the pieces on my table were collected over time—some were gifts and others thrifted—I assembled a shopping collection of similar items to help you recreate the look: ginger jar vases in blue and white, blue-and-white dessert plates, simple white plates for layering, yellow faux tulips, striped and checked cloth napkins, round placemats in coordinating tones, and a soft blue linen runner. Use those elements as a guide when choosing coordinating pieces for your own tablescape.
