A few years ago I began applying the same approach I use for home decorating to the way I put outfits together. I used to start a room makeover by gathering inspiration pictures, and now I do the same with clothes: I collect looks I like, note the details that appeal to me, and then hunt for pieces that capture that same feel.
I follow a handful of fashion bloggers regularly; a few minutes each day scrolling through their posts gives me a steady stream of ideas. I appreciate that they do the research on trends and sales, and I borrow the looks I love. I tuck visual ideas away in my mind for later—outfits that seem cute, casual and comfortable, which is exactly what I want for everyday wear.
One look I saved recently was simple and relaxed: a flowy, patterned blouse paired with skinny jeans and low wedge shoes. The picture I kept as a reference had a light, airy blouse with interesting details and slim denim that balances the volume on top. That balance—flowy top + fitted bottom—is an easy formula that creates a flattering, put-together silhouette without feeling fussy.

Living in Canada means I don’t always have access to the same brands or stores my favorite bloggers mention, so I’ve become good at finding local alternatives that capture the spirit of an outfit. Recently I had a lucky trip to Winners where I ended up finding an entire outfit that echoes the inspiration photo—different in detail, but very similar in overall vibe.

The pieces I chose work together because they follow a few simple styling principles: a floral, flowy blouse to add softness and pattern; skinny-leg jeans to create structure and elongate the legs; and comfortable, low-wedge shoes that make the outfit practical for day-to-day activities. While the blouse I found doesn’t have the exact criss-cross neckline of the inspiration, it includes crocheted details and tie ropes with tassels that give it personality and a handmade feel.

The jeans are a classic skinny fit—slim without being restrictive—so they pair well with the blouse’s flow. Choosing a neutral denim shade keeps the attention on the top while offering a timeless base you can mix and match with other wardrobe pieces.

I loved the small details of the blouse: the crochet trims and the tasseled ties add texture and a relaxed, artisanal vibe. These little touches are what turn a simple top into something that reads intentional and stylish without trying too hard.

The shoes surprised me with their comfort. They zip at the back, which makes them easy to slip on and off without dealing with laces, and the slight wedge gives a bit of lift while remaining practical for walking. Practical details like a back zipper can make a big difference when you want a polished look that’s also comfortable for everyday life.
All the pieces I’m wearing were found at Winners: the jeans are Ralph Lauren Denim and Supply, the blouse is by Solitaire by Ravi Khosla, and the shoes are from Soda. My purse is an older favorite I already had in my closet.
Styling notes for recreating this look:
- Choose a flowy printed blouse with interesting trims or texture to make it stand out.
- Pair it with slim or skinny jeans to balance volume and keep the outfit streamlined.
- Opt for comfortable, slightly elevated shoes with easy closures (zip, slip-on, or straps) for everyday wear.
- Keep accessories simple—a neutral bag and minimal jewelry will let the blouse be the focal point.
- If you’re shopping locally, focus on matching the silhouette and key details rather than exact brand replicas.
Where do you like to shop for clothes? I’m always curious to hear favorite stores and tips for finding similar looks in different regions.
