Deep Clean Your Stove for a Sparkling Finish

Why Deep Cleaning the Kitchen Feels So Good

I love the part of the day when everything is put back in its place and surfaces are wiped clean and polished. It might sound odd, but the satisfaction of a tidy, gleaming space is one of the simple pleasures of working in a busy kitchen.

Recently, before our next group of guests arrived, we set aside time for a little extra cleaning. We decided to turn that cleanup into a quick experiment: could six of us clean one half of the walk-in cooler in under ten minutes? The answer was yes — we did it.

The transformation felt energizing. There’s a small, almost giddy thrill that comes with seeing everything shine and knowing the space is ready for the next rush of activity.

Shiny Stove, Happy Kitchen

Meanwhile, Travis and Ben took on the stove and made it look like new. That stove gets used nearly every day — starting with the morning grill for scrambled eggs — so keeping it clean is both practical and satisfying.

Watching a heavily used appliance regain its shine makes a big difference in the feel of the whole kitchen. A clean stove isn’t just aesthetic: it’s safer, more sanitary, and easier to work on.

Natural Cleaning That Works: Grapefruit Juice

We explored different methods and products for cleaning the grill. There are plenty of commercial cleaners available, but many come with strong chemical smells we prefer to avoid in a food-preparation environment. Instead, we turned to a simple, natural alternative: grapefruit juice.

Grapefruit juice works surprisingly well as a degreaser. It’s a natural option that can perform as effectively as harsher chemical cleaners without leaving strong, lingering odors. It’s also more economical, which matters when you’re cleaning large, well-used surfaces on a regular basis.

That said, no cleaner — natural or chemical — replaces good old-fashioned elbow grease. Shining a heavily used grill and stove requires effort and time. Big thanks to Travis and Ben for putting in the work to get it looking great.

How We Cleaned Half the Walk-In Cooler

Some readers asked why we only cleaned half of the cooler during this session. The answer is simple and practical: we consolidated everything to one side, removed the empty shelves from the cleared half, and thoroughly scrubbed the shelves, floor, and walls in that area. This approach made the task manageable and efficient for a small team on a short timeline. We’ll tackle the other half during the next scheduled cleaning day.

Breaking large cleaning jobs into sections is a helpful strategy for commercial kitchens and shared facilities. It keeps disruption to a minimum while allowing for deep, focused cleaning where it’s needed most. Regular, scheduled deep cleans — combined with natural, effective cleaners and solid teamwork — keep the kitchen sanitary, safe, and ready for service.

{Thanks, Travis and Ben!}
