Learn how to make a quick, no-sew face mask using the dense fabric of a Norwex window cloth.
I never imagined I’d publish a DIY face mask tutorial on the blog, but recent recommendations and shortages led me to a fast, simple solution I wanted to share. This method is quick, requires no sewing, and works with many fabrics—especially dense materials like the Norwex window cloth, which I personally use in my home.

Disclosure: I am a Norwex Independent Consultant.
Recently, the CDC recommended wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing is difficult. Shortly after, Norwex announced they’re beginning production of personal-use face masks made from their window cloth material, which is dense and includes their BacLock system. I’m excited about that option, but initial demand is expected to outpace supply.

While we wait for the Norwex masks, here’s a straightforward no-sew method you can use right now. The technique is adaptable to most dense fabrics, but because I already use Norwex cloths for cleaning, I’m using that fabric in the photos and examples below.
This no-sew mask uses simple folding and two elastic bands or hair ties to make a comfortable, reusable face covering. For less bulk and improved breathability, you can cut each cloth into three equal pieces and make three separate masks from one cloth. Cutting the fabric is recommended for better airflow—see the update and links below for more detailed instructions if you prefer multiple thinner layers.
Optional update: After testing, I recommend cutting the cloth into pieces and making multiple masks to improve breathability. For step-by-step instructions and a detailed video on making several masks from one Norwex window cloth, visit the instructions link provided in the original post.

Simple no-sew mask: step-by-step
1. Prepare the fabric
Lay your Norwex window cloth (or another dense fabric) flat. If you want three masks from one cloth, cut the cloth into three identical pieces first.
2. Add elastic bands
Slide a rubber band or hair tie onto each short end of the fabric, positioning each band about one-third of the way in from the end. These will serve as ear loops.
The fabric in the center will form a cup-like shape that covers the nose and mouth when worn.

3. Fold toward the center
Fold each end of the fabric toward the center, tucking the ends behind the elastic bands so the bands securely hold the folds in place. Hold the folded mask to your face, center the cup over your nose and mouth, and loop the elastic bands over your ears.

That’s it—quick and easy! This no-sew option creates a simple face covering for everyday errands and quick trips out. If you prefer a less bulky mask or more breathability, cut the cloth and make multiple masks as suggested above.
