We’ve Moved Into Our New Home: Our Moving Weekend and First Impressions
We finally moved into our new house! It was a whirlwind weekend full of heavy lifting, decisions and small victories. Just three days ago we met our realtor outside our new front door and stepped into an empty space that felt full of possibility:

Over the past few days we’ve been hauling boxes, testing furniture layouts, and learning how long it takes to locate a single missing charger. We underestimated what “downsizing” would mean in practice—there’s a surprising amount of decision-making when you’re choosing what stays and what goes—but overall the move went according to plan. Our main goal was to get the essentials into place so we could rest and recharge, and that’s exactly what we accomplished.
After unpacking and rearranging, we finally have one comfortable room where we can sit down and breathe. It feels great to have a space that already looks like home, even if it’s not completely finished yet:

Moving house is exhausting but also oddly energizing. The act of placing items, testing different furniture arrangements, and deciding what to keep has been a surprisingly creative experience. We are prioritizing comfort and practicality for this first week: easy-to-assemble furniture, everyday essentials on hand, and a clear path through the rooms. Small touches—like a lamp in the corner, a rug to anchor the living area, and a stack of favorite books—make an immediate difference to the feel of a room.
There are a few logistical tasks still on the list. Today I’m heading back to our old house to do the final clean and make sure everything is in order before handing over the keys. That final sweep of a home you’ve lived in is always a little bittersweet. It’s a chance to reflect on the memories made there and to close the chapter with one last careful tidy-up.
Once the final clean is done and we’ve settled in a bit more, I’ll take you on a complete house tour. I want to show you how we arrange rooms, how we’ve adapted to downsizing, and the simple practical solutions that make everyday life easier during a transition like this. Expect photos, layout ideas, and honest reflections about what worked — and what didn’t — during the move.
A big thank you to everyone who sent messages of encouragement over the weekend. Your support made those long hours feel lighter. Moving is a messy, emotional, and oddly rewarding process. Some of you shared memories of your own moves, and it helped to know we weren’t alone in the chaos and the unexpected discoveries—like boxes of things you forgot you owned.
Now that all our belongings are together in one place, I’m having fun figuring out where everything fits. We’re cataloging the items that truly belong in this new home and setting aside things that won’t make the cut. I suspect there will be another garage sale in our near future to pare down further and pass along items that deserve a new life.
For anyone planning a move: give yourself time, accept that perfection isn’t immediate, and keep a box of essentials for the first 48 hours—chargers, toiletries, a set of dishes, and a few comfortable changes of clothes. Little conveniences go a long way when you’re tired from lifting and decisions.
Stay tuned for the full house tour and more details on how we’re approaching decorating, storage solutions, and adapting to a smaller space. For now, we’re grateful to have a room to sit in, a bed to sleep in, and a sense that this new house will soon feel like home.
