I always welcome the fresh start a new year brings: fresh ideas, new possibilities, renewed potential, and the excitement of what lies ahead. Before diving into the coming months, it’s rewarding to pause and reflect on the projects and progress made over the past year. Here’s a clear, easy-to-read recap of what happened at Harbour Breeze.
JANUARY always inspires me to get more organized and efficient. I began the year by moving my craft area into the basement to create a dedicated workspace. The room was dim and uninspiring at first, but with a few practical updates and some careful rearranging it became a bright, functional place where I enjoy spending time.
Although there’s still more to do, the basement is now much more cheerful. Simple touches, better lighting, and a little organization transformed the space and made crafting and laundry tasks more pleasant.

FEBRUARY and MARCH brought significant changes for the blog and my small creative business. I moved the blog to a new platform and launched an Etsy shop to showcase handmade creations. Those months involved lots of learning—setting up shop, understanding product listings, and figuring out how to present photos and descriptions to connect with customers.
I also began an interview series with inspiring women running creative online businesses. Their practical tips and honest perspectives were a highlight for me and offered useful lessons for readers interested in starting or growing a handmade business.

SPRING and SUMMER focused on simple, budget-friendly updates around the house. In one corner of the home, the master bedroom received a gentle refresh. Painting the walls a clean white opened and brightened the space, and adding light accessories with touches of blue gave the room a calm, beachy feel. Much of the new look came from rearranging and repurposing items I already owned, which is one of my favorite ways to refresh a room without a big expense.

Warmer weather also inspired some outdoor work: a front patio and door makeover that boosted curb appeal and made the entrance more welcoming. Simple planting, fresh paint, and a few coordinated accessories made a noticeable difference. The trellis ended up covered in sweet peas by mid-summer—a lovely reminder to plant them again next season.

NOVEMBER brought colder, rainier days and a desire to refresh the entryway. A stenciled feature wall added character and transformed a gray corner into a striking focal point. It was a reminder of how much impact a small can of paint or a thoughtful accent can make in a space.

Throughout the year, I shared many smaller craft projects in the project gallery. Two projects stood out as reader favorites: a tutorial on painting rustic signs and a DIY set of book page star ornaments. Both are approachable for crafters of different skill levels and offer simple ways to create meaningful, handmade decor or gifts.

One of the most pinned images from the year featured a “Movie Night in a Bag” gift idea—simple, fun, and easily customized. It’s an example of the small, useful projects that readers enjoy saving and recreating.
Looking back, the year was filled with practical updates, creative experiments, and steps toward growing a small creative business. Each project reinforced a few reliable lessons: thoughtful organization makes a space inviting, small changes can have big impact, and repurposing items from around the house can refresh a room without breaking the budget.
I’m already planning for the year ahead—sketching ideas, gathering materials, and making lists. The first project has even arrived in the mail, and I’m eager to begin. Stay tuned for more tutorials, room makeovers, and creative projects inspired by simple, everyday living.
