I love autumn, and although I sometimes update my decor seasonally, I haven’t done a full switch-over this year. In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, I pulled together a few favorite projects from my archives to share again. These scenes show how a handful of simple items—store-bought mini pumpkins, fallen branches, seed heads and other things gathered just outside the front door—can be combined to create cozy fall vignettes. Fall Entryway with a sign repurposed from an old window. This vignette is a good example of how a single handmade piece—the window-turned-sign—anchors the whole entrance. Paired with a few small pumpkins, a textured throw, and a simple cluster of seasonal foliage, the entry feels warm and welcoming without a lot of fuss.
Fall Dining Tablescape. For the table, I like to use classic pieces—china, simple chargers or placemats—and add seasonal accents such as small gourds, sprigs of greenery, and candles. A layered look with texture and varying heights gives the table interest while keeping it functional for guests and family.
Fall Decor for the Living Room. In the living room I focus on small swaps—add a throw pillow in autumn tones, drape a cozy blanket over a chair, and place a basket of seasonal items like pinecones or dried seed pods nearby. These minor adjustments refresh the room’s mood without requiring a major overhaul.
One of my favorite images from past autumns is a simple photograph of sunflowers, which captures the season’s light and color beautifully:
Small, effortless touches often make the biggest impact. A bowl of mini pumpkins from the grocery store, a bundle of twigs tied with twine, or a few amber-hued glass bottles grouped on a shelf can take a room from ordinary to seasonal. Mixing natural elements with items you already own highlights both texture and color while keeping the look approachable and budget-friendly.
When planning fall decor, consider these practical tips:
– Start small: swap out a few accessories rather than redecorating an entire room.
– Use what you already have: repurpose vintage items or pieces pulled from other rooms.
– Bring nature indoors: collected branches, seed pods, dried grasses, and seasonal blooms add authenticity.
– Focus on texture and warmth: layered textiles, wood elements, and soft lighting create a cozy atmosphere.
– Keep functionality in mind: decorate in a way that still allows everyday use of the space.
Thanks for stopping by this Throwback Thursday roundup—wishing you a happy and cozy autumn season. Happy Thursday!
