Small Home Organization Projects to Transform Your Space

Before we move into a new month, here’s a clear, friendly recap of the “Project Simplify” organizing projects we completed in January. Tackling an entire house can feel overwhelming, but breaking it into small, focused projects makes progress manageable and motivating.

My approach is straightforward: choose one area, decide what to keep and where it will live, and create simple storage solutions that are easy to maintain. Over time, these small wins add up to a more functional, calmer home. Below are the areas we addressed so far, with brief descriptions of each project and the benefits they deliver.

Gift Wrap Drawer Liners

This simple project shows how decorative gift wrap can become functional drawer liners. Beyond adding a fresh look, liners protect surfaces, keep small items from sliding, and make drawers easier to clean—an inexpensive update with immediate visual and practical payoff.

Make-up Organization

Creating a designated spot for cosmetics reduces morning search time and prevents cluttered bathroom counters. This project focuses on grouping like items, using small trays or dividers, and keeping everyday essentials within easy reach.

Linen Storage

Tidy linen storage makes it simple to find matching sheets and towels when you need them. The key is folding consistently, grouping by room or size, and keeping extras accessible but out of the way to maintain a neat closet or shelving unit.

Jewellery Organization

Jewellery can be both decorative and functional when stored thoughtfully. Hanging displays, compartmentalized trays, or a simple dish for daily pieces prevent tangles and make it easy to choose accessories—turning storage into part of your decor.

The Toppling Tower of Towels!

A few minutes of folding and stacking can transform a messy linen closet into an orderly space. This project focuses on steady stacks, logical placement by size or purpose, and eliminating duplicates to prevent overfilling shelves.

A Big Boy’s Bedroom (decor still needed!)

Organizing a child’s room often requires practical storage that’s kid-friendly. This project focused on toy rotation, labeled bins, and reachable shelving so daily cleanup is easier and the room stays functional as it grows.

Organizing Travel Gear

Storing suitcases and travel accessories efficiently frees up closet space. Nesting luggage when possible and dedicating an out-of-the-way spot for travel items keeps them accessible without crowding everyday storage.

Utilizing Dressers as an Organizational Powerhouse!

Dressers aren’t just for bedrooms. Repurposing a dresser for office supplies or craft storage can provide drawer-based organization that’s both stylish and highly functional—especially when drawers are organized by task or item type.

Wrapping Paper Organization

Organizing wrapping paper, ribbons, and gift supplies helps keep craft areas tidy and ready for holidays or celebrations. Vertical storage and a simple caddy for smaller supplies make wrapping quick and less stressful.

Organizing Time ~ Blog Binders

For bloggers and planners, a binder system can centralize ideas, calendars, and reference materials. Keeping notes and inspiration in one place reduces digital clutter and makes planning editorial tasks more efficient.

I truly enjoy hearing from readers—your feedback and project stories are inspiring. It’s comforting to know many of us face the same organizing challenges and that small, steady efforts can make a big difference.

Are you working on any small organization projects right now? If so, what are you tackling? Share your ideas and wins—it’s motivating to learn from each other’s solutions.
