Sunflower Yellow Fall Decor Ideas for a Cozy Home

As the hot summer sun gives way to cooler autumn breezes, I like to refresh my home decor to create a cozier atmosphere.

I enjoy creating a seasonal look without spending a fortune or running to the shops every time the seasons change. Simple swaps and a few well-chosen accents are all it takes.

I usually start by picking a color to guide the refresh — this year I chose a warm sunflower yellow as my starting point for the living and dining rooms.

Yellow has always drawn me in, and the cheerful tone of sunflowers felt perfect for adding warmth and brightness to our fall styling.

Sunflower Yellow Fall Decor Ideas for the Living Room

Our small townhouse is an open-concept space where a lot of daily life happens, so seasonal updates need to be practical as well as pretty. I like to refresh what I already own, adding a few pocket-sized pieces to shift the mood from summer to autumn.

Throw pillows are my go-to starting point. Recently I learned how to sew zippered pillow covers, which are quick to make, inexpensive, and easy to store between seasons.

For fall I added a sunflower-yellow pillow among warm rust and harvest gold tones. Mixing patterns and textures keeps the look relaxed and lived-in, leaning toward a boho-casual vibe with a touch of coastal-grandmother charm.

I found some realistic faux sunflowers and a selection of autumn foliage, which I grouped in a sunflower-yellow stoneware pitcher to create a simple, eye-catching arrangement.

Later I repurposed those stems into a wreath for the front door, showing how versatile a few well-chosen faux stems can be.

For the coffee table I chose a compact, curated display so the surface stays functional in our small space. A modest arrangement can pack personality without creating clutter.

On the bookcases I swapped brighter summer pieces for items that feel warm and cozy: antique books, wooden boxes and bowls, candles, leather accents, black decor pieces, and woven baskets. These elements create a calm backdrop while letting the sunflower accents pop.

Small faux pumpkins displayed on a cake stand add instant autumn charm and a touch of color to otherwise neutral shelving. Groupings of three work especially well for a balanced, intentional look.

Right behind the living area is our dining room, which is another easy place to bring in seasonal touches. The DIY farmhouse shelves above the antique buffet are ideal for mixing in yellow accents.

A sunflower sign I spotted became the inspiration for this year’s scheme — sometimes a single piece can set the tone for an entire room.

I mixed in vintage Pyrex, ironstone plates, and family glassware to give the shelves a collected, homey feel while reinforcing the sunflower palette.

For the table centerpiece I kept things simple: a wooden cutting board layered with a faux greenery wreath and a candle in the center. I added a few yellow sprigs and fall-colored berries to the wreath and flanked the arrangement with small faux pumpkins.

Woven chargers, layered white plates, and napkins in sunny hues finish the tabletop. A simple runner sewn last year ties the boho-meets-farmhouse look together and keeps the styling cohesive.

That wraps up the fall tour of my living and dining spaces. With just a few swaps and a focused color theme, you can transform ordinary rooms into welcoming autumn retreats.

Many of the items shown were gathered over time or found at local craft stores. If you’re looking to recreate this look, focus on mixing textures—ceramics, wood, woven elements, and a few faux stems—to bring warmth and depth without overspending.
