It happened again just the other day. I had just met a new friend, and after talking for a while I found myself rummaging through my purse for a scrap of paper and a pen—all because she wanted to know the name of my blog.
For some time I’d been scribbling my blog name on everything from dinner napkins and Post-it notes to, my personal favorite, the torn corner of my grocery list. That little ritual finally convinced me it was time to get serious and have actual business cards printed.
I first learned about Vistaprint a few months ago thanks to a heads-up on Facebook. They were offering free address labels for one day, and the word “FREE” had me curious. I decided to give them a try and was pleasantly surprised by how simple and enjoyable the process felt. Expecting shipping to cost extra—especially here in Canada—I wasn’t shocked when shipping wasn’t free.
After that first order I also uploaded our Christmas photos and ordered prints. Again, the ordering steps were straightforward and the results were exactly what I wanted, so I came back when business cards were on my mind.
I began by visiting a deals page for Vistaprint products. From there I clicked into the business card section and selected the “FREE” option they were promoting. I considered creating a fully custom design using my blog logo, but for this round I chose the quicker, simpler route to get cards in hand quickly.
On the left side of the design screen I entered the contact details I wanted on the card. On the right I scrolled through a wide selection of templates and design options, and as I explored each choice a live preview showed exactly how the card would look. (For privacy in the screenshots above I’ve masked my personal information.)
When I was satisfied with the layout and text, I scrolled down and clicked the “Next” button to proceed. A quick note of caution: after that step you’ll be shown page after page of related products and add-ons—labels, stickers, stationery and matching items. If you love paper goods and coordinating sets, it’s delightfully tempting; if you want to keep things simple, be ready to click through a few upsell pages.
If you do want a full set—business cards, return address labels, envelopes, and other matching items—this process is an easy way to create a cohesive look in one place.
I continued through the ordering flow by hitting “Next” on each page, reviewing choices and verifying my information. The site repeatedly reminds you to double-check spelling and contact details, because once the order is placed they cannot make corrections for typos. That’s a sensible warning—especially when you’re rushing through and eager to finish the order.
Right before finalizing the purchase, they presented another appealing option: shipping labels that would match my card design. They were offered at a discount, and I couldn’t resist—especially since I thought they would look perfect on my Etsy packages.
So I added the matching labels to my order. I’m now looking forward to receiving a cheerful package in the mail in a few weeks and finally having a proper stash of business cards to hand out without resorting to grocery list scraps.
For fellow Canadians, their Canadian site can be found at the local Vistaprint address listed on the order pages.
