Personally, I've learned something important about myself over the years.
I really don't enjoy personality tests.
They stress me out. I read one question and instantly picture a dozen situations, each needing a different answer... "Well... it depends."
- Do I like social events? Which kind?
- Who will be there?
- How loud will it be?
- What am I expected to do?
Before long, I've answered one question fifteen different ways, and the quiz isn't measuring my personality anymore. It's just exposing my overthinking.
When the results finally arrive? All over the map. I've decided my official type is: "The woman who does not enjoy personality tests."
But today is different, because I've created a personality quiz I truly love. (And, no, it's not scientific at all!!! ;)

Why Purses? (Here's What I Noticed...)
Years ago, I worked in a retail shop that carried a line of purses. As women browsed, I made two fascinating observations:
- For most women, a purse is a very important accessory.
- Every single detail matters: the zippered pockets, the size, the strap, the color. Everything!
What mattered to one woman wasn't always what mattered to the next.
That's when it hit me: a woman's purse tells you a lot about who she is.

The Purseanality Test: Three Purse Personalities
As you read these, go on a little treasure hunt in your mind. Think of the women in your life, past and present, who might fit each one. Maybe it's you. Maybe it's your mom, your grandmother, or your best friend.

This is the woman who has it all together. Everything has its place, and everything is intentional. She moves through life with calm efficiency and keeps her hands free so she can move fast.

Type 2: The Rescue Ranger
The Carry-It-All Bag
This bag? It's not just a handbag. It's a survival kit.
What's inside her bag?
- Bandages
- Snacks
- Flashlight
- Multi-tool
- Tissues, gum, and hand sanitizer
- Safety pins plus medicine
- Chargers
- Probably a granola bar from 2019
If a natural disaster strikes, find this woman and stay close. She is prepared. You might assume a bag ready for any emergency would be huge, but the Rescue Ranger's pocketbook may be surprisingly small or medium sized.
It's probably packed with tremendous strategy, squeezing every single. little. inch. Think color-coordinated pouches with everything placed with precision. And make no mistake: the rescue ranger herself may be a bit of a character, but her purse weighs a TON!!

- That "just in case" thinking can be a love language
- That comfort often looks like being prepared
Type 3: The Magic Maker
The Endless Wonder Bag
And then there's the magical purse, the bottomless wonder, the Mary Poppins-style handbag.
A child starts crying? Out comes:

- Tiny toys

- Crackers
- A fully stocked emotional support kit
Nobody quite understands how it all fits, but somehow it does. The magic maker probably loves telling stories and is a complete delight over coffee. She's the one you call when your child needs an odd costume for tomorrow's dress-up day. She has it, and she absolutely loves sharing her "finds" with you!

- Nurturing that sparks creativity
- A good laugh is great medicine
- Fun distractions can calm a child's emotional meltdown
- That some of the most meaningful acts of love come with a giggle and a sweet treat
At the Heart of It All
Here's what I love most about this little exercise:
No matter what kind of purse a woman carries, she carries something meaningful.
Whether she is organized, prepared, nurturing, efficient, practical, gentle, or fun, every woman carries something that has shaped the people around her.
If you pause today to look back over your life, you may realize that many women have brought treasures into your world:
- Some offered you wisdom.
- Some offered you comfort.
- Some brought you laughter.
- Some lent you strength.
- Some shared their faith with you.
Some women carried burdens you never saw, so that you could carry hope.
A Note for Mother's Day
This Purseanality Test began as a fun object lesson I created for a Mother's Day talk at church. I wanted something that connects all women, whether they're moms or not.
Mother's Day can stir up so many emotions:
- For some, it brings joy.
- For others, it feels tender.
- For some, it is heavy with grief.
- For others, it is filled with deep gratitude.
Whatever feelings Mother's Day stirs up for you, my prayer is that you will remember the women who have loved you, the women who shaped you, and the women who brought faith, hope, wisdom, and compassion into your life.
And may we honor them not only by remembering, but by being women who share kindness and love with joyful abandon!
