Why You’ll Love this Bacon in the Oven Recipe

Years ago, I worked as a head chef and food services manager at a year-round retreat center and camp, cooking for anywhere from 30 to 250 people a day. I brought home a lot of practical, real-life kitchen tips from that job — and this oven-baked bacon method is one of them. It’s how we cooked bacon for a crowd and had it ready by breakfast, and it works just as beautifully at home.

Here’s why you’ll love it too: the bacon turns out perfectly crispy, there’s no splattering or grease burns, and cleanup is easy thanks to parchment paper. It’s a true never-fail method I’ve used hundreds of times. You can cook a whole package at once, making it perfect for a crowd — or for cooking ahead and reheating throughout the week when you want bacon with your eggs.

I found that the baking time can fluctuate a bit based on the type and thickness of the specific bacon you purchase. Thicker and thick cut bacon will take longer to become crispy, so it will require more time in the oven.

And, there you have it! Delicious, crispy bacon done in the oven.

FAQs about this bacon in the oven recipe and method

Baking times can vary based on the thickness and type of bacon used. However, a general rule is that it takes about 15-25 minutes before it starts to become crispy.

Yes, it is! It does have it’s limitations, though. Check out this detailed post for how to safely use parchment paper for baking.

You can use aluminum foil as an alternate to parchment paper to line the pan when you are cooking bacon in the oven. The purpose of both the parchment paper and aluminum foil is just to help with clean up, so you can choose whichever type you prefer – or none at all!

Some people choose to put an oven safe rack in the pan and place the bacon on top of it before baking bacon in the oven. The idea is that the bacon is elevated and the grease will drip into the pan below. I’ve never used this method, but don’t think it’s necessary to still acheive delicious, crispy bacon. And, it just creates more dishes to wash!;)

Savor flawlessly crisp bacon without the typical mess and difficulty thanks to this uncomplicated crispy bacon in the oven recipe. Whether you are preparing for just two individuals or a large gathering, this simple cooking approach is excellent for cooking numerous strips simultaneously with ease.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Get your oven ready by setting it to 375 degrees.
  2. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, then arrange the bacon strips in a single layer, ensuring they are close but not overlapping.
  3. Slide the tray into the oven and set a timer for eight minutes.
  4. After the initial eight minutes, you should notice the bacon has reduced in size and rendered some fat. Carefully turn the strips over and drain some of the accumulated grease into a container, exercising extreme caution due to the high temperature. If handling the pan seems risky, a spoon can be used to remove the surplus fat.
  5. Return the bacon to the oven and set another timer for eight minutes. Once it signals, inspect the strips to see if they have reached your desired level of crunch. If you prefer them extra crispy, simply leave them in for a short while longer.
  6. When the bacon has achieved the perfect crispiness, transfer it to a plate covered with paper towels to absorb any remaining grease.
