Crafting an Envelope Style Pillow

My recent time has felt like a Pillow Paloozo celebration! After discussing the Simple Linen Pillow and how to transform a Grommet Curtain into a Decor Pillow, I'll now demonstrate creating an envelope pillow, a style I've playfully named.

First, take the measurement of your pillow's front and increase it by 1/2 inch on both edges to determine the front piece's size. For a variation, I constructed mine using three fabric sections: a patterned center flanked by two white pieces. Always account for seam allowances when designing the pillow front. Ensure you align the RIGHT sides together, stitch, and press the seams flat.

Next, cut the fabric for the back, sizing it to match your pillow back plus 1/2 inch on every side. Hem one edge (where the flap will cover) by folding down 1 inch, pressing, folding another 1 inch, pressing again, and stitching. Alternatively, you can utilize the selvage edge of the fabric, as I did.

Then, cut a flap piece to your desired width and hem one of its edges.

Arrange the components as shown in the illustration, secure with pins, and stitch 1/2 inch around the entire perimeter, mirroring the details in both preceding images.

Finally, trim the corners and carefully turn the piece to the right side.

Insert the pillow form into the casing.

Fold the flap up and neatly around the finished end.
