A seemingly minor ceiling fix sparked a complete makeover for our main bathroom this Summer; one change led to another, resulting in a wonderfully refreshed space!
Given that a full bathroom renovation typically runs between $6,600 and $16,900, we chose a much more economical route.
We decided to update key elements while retaining the existing tub/ shower, toilet, vanity, and flooring.
This shows our bathroom following the ceiling repair and after removing some of the ceiling stipple:
The large vanity and room layout work well for our bathroom's function, but we desired an overall aesthetic update.
The mirror, lights, and the previous dark beige wall paint were among our least favored aspects of the room.

Here is a summary of the transformations we completed:
- When scraping the ceiling stipple proved difficult, we opted to cover the ceiling with faux shiplap instead. We mirrored the shiplap accent wall from our powder room, but due to ceiling stud placement, we secured it using gorilla glue and mechanical bracing while curing (a detailed process post is forthcoming).
- The space gained brightness with a new, fresh, and clean wall paint color, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore; though lovely, it felt too stark after painting.
- Painting a feature bathroom wall with Evergreen Fog completely shifted the atmosphere of the space, which we adore!
- Upgraded the vanity area with a new mirror, lights, faucet, and drawer pulls.
- Accessories such as a turkish towel shower curtain, soft throw rugs, and a faux plant on the window sill create a relaxing and welcoming feel. *Hint: Positioning your shower curtain high enhances the feeling of space; even a few inches matter significantly.*
