Witness a modern farmhouse laundry room refresh in just two days on a modest budget.
The initial transformation for our laundry area happened only a few months after settling into our townhouse.
We had absolutely no plans to renovate it.
However, an issue arose; after transporting my cherished blue washer and dryer across two residences, the washing machine stopped functioning entirely.
While managing the purchase of a replacement and awaiting its delivery, we decided to turn this challenging situation into a positive one…
Between visits to the laundromat, we cleared the compact area and gave it a tidy-up. We utilized leftover paint from our prior dwelling and hung shelving using existing supplies.
It improved things, yet I desired a more polished appearance.
This past weekend provided the perfect opportunity!

Explore the small Laundry Room before the changes
A hallway area, situated off the kitchen, connects to an exterior door and the laundry space.

Exiting through the door at the far end leads into the garage.

Alternatively, turning right reveals the laundry area alongside a very small powder room.

Areas Requiring Attention:
- Despite liking the blue wall paint from our previous home, it felt unsuitable for this specific setting; I aimed for a lighter, more vibrant atmosphere.
- The old exterior door appeared worn and uninviting.
- The electrical box (which I must reach every time I use the vacuum with the portable heater on!) is placed in a very awkward spot and is quite unsightly.
- The shelves above the washer and dryer were not practical for storage; I envisioned something newer and more appealing there.

Here is our approach:
Walls & Trim – Simply White by Benjamin Moore
Since I grew fond of Simply White for the rest of the house, my initial objective was to paint these walls the same shade. We are gradually updating all rooms to this color; it suits this home perfectly and we adore it.
A note on painting white walls: achieving full coverage requires numerous coats. After testing four different paint brands (all matched to Benjamin Moore’s Simply White), I found Cloverdale provided the best finish. However, just like the others, I needed 3 coats, and 4 in some spots. This is due to the nature of painting light colors, not the paint quality. Plus, the ladder use offers excellent leg exercise! :)

2. The Outside Door – Raccoon Fur by Benjamin Moore

I selected the shade “Raccoon Fur” from Benjamin Moore after matching it to our new couch. Since I had used it on our other two exterior doors, matching this one felt right. Its gray, black, and blue tones appear gentle and complement my cherished Modern Farmhouse Style.
For painting a metal exterior door with plastic trim yourself, I shared a step-by-step guide here. I must admit I consulted it while deciding on the correct primer.
3. Schlage Door Handles

The impact of simply updating door hardware on a space cannot be overstated; it instantly removes a dated 80s feel and brings the room into a current era.
I paired handles matching those from my Farmhouse Hallway Makeover months ago, creating a cohesive look. The hallway door uses the Georgian Knob with Collins Trim, while the exterior door features the Georgian Lever with Collins Trim and a deadbolt (very similar). The oil rubbed bronze finish adds a lovely modern touch.

4. Accent Wood Wall
I wish I had planned this entire transformation beforehand using mood boards and carefully chosen materials.
However, I did not.
My only certainty was the paint colors; afterward, I visited my local Dollarama searching for inspiration for a feature wall.

I discovered wood plank stickers, and for just $3 for a pack of 8 planks, this wall became an unexpectedly delightful and economical update!
**Many people have inquired about where to buy these wood plank wall stickers; these are the closest online options I could locate.**

5. Covering the Electrical Panel
I struggled significantly with this corner, seeking a stylish way to conceal the electrical panel, but the solution came from another room!

I placed this lovely print from Minted in the area. I adore how it introduces bright, cheerful hues and harmonizes with the blue dryer opposite it.

Because it needed to be hung quite high to cover the electrical box, I raised the display on the dresser beyond its usual height, which helps balance the art's elevated placement!

Decor, Accents, & Useful Storage

After several years in this residence, I finally grasp the necessary items for my laundry area. Initially, I assumed shelves would be required for storage.
Yet, after transitioning all my cleaning products to Norwex, I no longer need bins and baskets full of cleaning supplies (with harsh chemicals!).

This allows me to display daily-use items in attractive containers and add decorative touches for a nicer appearance!
These are the essentials for my laundry space:
- A substantial container of laundry detergent, sourced from Ikea.
- A compact jar containing a microfiber booster, purchased at Dollarama.
- Dryer balls infused with Purification essential oil.
- A dedicated receptacle for unmatched socks; where do these stray socks ultimately end up?
I incorporated artificial foliage from Ikea, alongside a Money Tree. I am searching for a realistic faux plant of comparable size since my Money Tree benefits from genuine illumination.

This antique dresser, which I repainted some time ago, serves as a vital storage piece within our compact residence.
The contents are organized as follows:
- The bottom drawer houses minor paint and stain containers.
- The central drawer holds nails, wall anchors, batteries, flashlights, and extension cords.
- Cleaning rags are kept in the upper left drawer.
- The top right drawer stores my essential wall decor and frequently used implements.
- Beneath these is my somewhat minimized selection of house paint.
Minor adjustments create significant results.
Thus, in just two days and with a modest budget, I achieved remarkable improvements in this small area for Bildirimlerim!
