Smart ways to utilize a compact laundry room for storage, style, and tidiness.
Looking back at when we first moved into our townhouse reminds us to appreciate how much things evolve; after this initial small laundry room makeover, we completed another weekend refresh of the laundry room.
We haven't altered much since then, yet despite its small size, I genuinely love it, and I am thankful for functional washing machines & dryers! ;)

The laundry room was not among the plans I made for our new residence.
It is situated at the far end of a narrow hall near the kitchen, remaining unchanged until the new year.

When I painted the kitchen spontaneously, I extended the paint to this hallway, omitting the area directly behind the washer and dryer.

The appliances occupied most of the area, making it difficult to paint behind them; both the washer and dryer sat on pedestal drawers, which offered storage for cleaning cloths, lightbulbs, and waterproofing spray. However, the pedestal placement prevented access to the upper shelf…

Despite seeming large for the space, I favored them until the washing machine ceased operating correctly, which was quite disappointing…
Fortunately, this situation allowed us to clear space and paint behind the units :)

While considering a new washing machine, a significant choice was made that redefined the room's design.

My selection was a top-loading machine.
Consequently, the pedestals were removed, ushering in a completely new appearance!

Organization Tips for Small Laundry Rooms
A hurdle in this area is its location adjacent to the main floor powder room entrance, a high-traffic spot where I did not want it to resemble a utility closet;)
1. Install laundry shelving above the washer & dryer for extra storage.
I moved all cleaning supplies to hidden spots and installed shelving spanning the room's full width; while useful for baskets and bins, it currently displays mostly decorative items.

2. Employ a curtain to conceal the plumbing pipes
This small white curtain provides my 'farmhouse style' solution for hiding the unsightly pipes and faucet box in the wall.
3. If laundry cabinets are absent, store basic supplies in attractive, accessible containers.
I keep my laundry detergent in a clear glass jar with a scoop, easily reachable on the shelf.
A tray atop the dryer is ideal for holding dryer balls.
4. Incorporate artwork to achieve a charming farmhouse laundry aesthetic.
After researching wall art, I opted for printables, which I now consider a favorite element of the room.

The substantial central frame is an older piece I acquired during a clearance sale; I transformed its original dark brown finish using chalk paints. (A tutorial will be shared soon.)
