Fall Entryway Table with a Red Berry Garland
I recently spent a peaceful hour wandering through my favorite home decor shop, enjoying the autumn displays. One item caught my eye right away: a pretty red berry garland. It reminded me that my sister-in-law, Lorrie, had given me a similar garland earlier in the year. With that spark of inspiration, I began planning an entryway table arrangement centered around the garland.
Below I’ll describe how I put everything together and share photos of the finished display so you can recreate the look or adapt the ideas to your own home.

Main Focal Piece: A Chalkboard Sign in an Old Window Frame
The centerpiece of the table is a sign inspired by one of my sign-making heroes, Aimee Weaver. I used an old window as the frame and painted one side as a chalkboard. For the painted sign area, I discovered a surface product that takes paint beautifully and gives a smooth finish—perfect for hand-lettered or painted messages. I’ll be doing a tutorial on technique and materials soon, but for now, the finished sign adds a welcoming, handmade touch to the display.

Layering Rustic and Vintage Elements
To create interest I layered a few rustic and vintage items. A small antique box and an aged lamp add height and structure, while a weathered tin and a rusty, multi-drawer bin bring texture and character. The rusty drawer unit is one of my favorite recent thrifted treasures. The worn patina and imperfect edges are exactly what give it personality.

On top of the drawer bin I placed a few antique glass insulators. They were found during the same treasure-hunting trip and add a soft vintage sheen that contrasts nicely with the matte textures of the other pieces.
Adding Seasonal Color and Natural Accents
A small bag of ornamental gourds from the grocery store provided pops of autumn color without the expense of specialty decor. A thrifted painting—an original that cost only a dollar—became an effortless piece of wall art to tie the display together. These budget-friendly elements prove you don’t need to spend much to create an inviting seasonal vignette.

Sentimental Touches
No arrangement feels complete without a personal, sentimental element. I draped a wool blanket monogrammed with my grandfather’s name across the bench near the table. My grandmother gave that blanket to him one Christmas, and including it in the display adds warmth, history, and a quietly meaningful story to the vignette.

Styling Tips and Takeaways
- Start with one standout piece—in this case, the red berry garland—and build your palette and textures around it.
- Mix heights to keep the eye moving: a tall lamp or sign, mid-height containers, and lower objects like bowls of gourds work well together.
- Include at least one thrifted or vintage item to add character and a sense of history.
- Add a sentimental item for emotional warmth; small personal touches make seasonal decor feel like home.
- Keep the color palette cohesive: the red berries set the tone, and neutral vintage pieces help everything harmonize.
This simple combination of a handcrafted sign, red berry garland, thrifted finds, and a few natural accents created a welcoming fall entryway that feels cozy and curated. If you like this style, try adapting the steps above with items you already own—often the best displays come from unexpected pairings and meaningful pieces.
