It dawned on me a just few weeks ago. I was suffering with a malady that I’ve watched others encounter many times.

Rest assured, though, this illness didn’t require a doctor’s care. No special pills, ointments, x-rays, or herbal remedies was going to fix this.

What it did require, though, was a little help from my friends.

“What in the world are you talking about?,” you may ask.

Although embarrassing to admit ~ I was struck with Decorating Paralysis.

Have you heard of it?

By definition,it is:

the state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome.

As a home decor blogger, I feel it’s my job to show my readers “quick and easy” ways to create a beautiful home.

The push to have superstar projects and rooms can be overwhelming at times. I want to come up with creative & practical solutions that I can practice and teach.

I wanted to get a head start on a room makeover in my own house to coincide with the One Room Challenge that was starting in the future. It should have been a fun process, but whenever I thought about it, I couldn’t make one decision!

As I pondered what my problem was, it finally dawned on me.

I was scared.

Almost all of my former homes were of the “fixer upper” variety to one extreme or another. Honestly, they were a hot. mess.

Living in homes like that made me much less fearful to start a project. After all, nothing could be worse than what was already there.

I painted 70’s paneling, took the doors off cupboards, turned a basement corner into a craft room, and found that painting a stairway was better than a workout at the gym.

But, now?

Now, I live in a place that’s already pretty.

The residence features insulated walls with neat drywall, and the flooring includes laminate, carpet, and linoleum. Cabinet doors close smoothly, and the shower fixture is securely mounted.

My inability to decide stemmed from the concern about making a mistake or selecting the wrong item!

Has this feeling ever resonated with you?

Please don't think that we home decor writers always have everything under control; this time was an exception!

While I truly enjoy redecorating spaces and bringing order to disorder, I prefer to have a strategy beforehand.

On this occasion, I needed assistance in forming a plan.

I documented every choice that was causing me hesitation.

Following that, I reached out to my companions.

I reviewed their photographs and explored their websites for particular details regarding the areas I struggled with.

I observed their Instastories, Facebook live streams, and even sent emails to some of them.

Initially, it felt a little strange since I viewed them as my 'idols' in both blogging and decor.

However, I discovered that their generosity, creativity, and supportive words were incredibly encouraging.

They provided me with the necessary boldness to proceed.

I am still developing my plan, yet I am no longer completely stuck or paralyzed.

Therefore, today, I wish to offer some encouragement: do not let apprehension halt your start; it is perfectly fine not to have every detail sorted out right away. Address each choice individually.

Furthermore, do not hesitate to seek support from friends; you will be grateful for that action.

Perhaps you are hesitating about a home space renovation; is the budget a concern, or are you struggling to select a room, paint shade, or the proper couch size for your area? Do you need guidance on wallpaper selection?
