From my iPad, sitting on the Atlanta, Georgia airport runway before takeoff, I observe the usual scene: passengers maneuvering bags down the aisle, seeking space in the overhead compartments. Once the flight attendants secure these areas with their chimes and announcements, our journey in this large aircraft will commence.
Ten days of exciting travels have concluded, and now our trip back home begins.
My husband has been attending a leadership course for the last 14 months. This recent residential learning took place in Georgia, and we were invited to attend part of it along with the graduation celebration. Due to the airline's difficulty scheduling our return flights using points, we had several days to explore Georgia while we waited.
We managed to fit a great deal into the last week and a half, traveling via planes, trains, and automobiles.

We visited, learned, celebrated, and left feeling inspired at a lovely retreat center that was formerly a dairy farm.

We sampled Southern home cooking, including shrimp and grits, buttermilk biscuits and gravy, catfish, and fried okra. A meal at Paula Deen’s restaurant was also enjoyed! While everything was good, the Georgia pecan pie was my absolute favorite food item…

We strolled through the charming streets of Savannah, admiring the exquisite corbels, brickwork, and cobblestones.

We paused on the well-known Forest Gump bench, enjoyed coffee, and listened to the rhythmic clip-clop of horses passing by.

Our itinerary wasn't meticulously planned down to every detail before departure; instead, we simply followed what felt right in the moment.
A happy coincidence led us near a location I've always wished to see (thanks to Layla at the Lettered Cottage), so a brief drive brought us to Tybee Island beach. Despite the cool and breezy weather, it was a wonderful part of our trip.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have experienced an unfamiliar region, and I eagerly anticipate embracing my boys and sorting through more boxes.
This past month has been a truly fast-paced experience.
It is satisfying to be on the way back to our home.
(*Update: We have arrived home! While managing laundry, tidying, and unpacking, I plan to share all our recent adventures—stay tuned!;))
