Ditch the pre-made options and create this straightforward pancake syrup using just three items: sugar, brown sugar, and water. This homemade drizzle is perfect for topping stacks of fluffy pancakes, waffles, cornbread, or biscuits!
My childhood memories involve homemade pancake syrup; I genuinely did not encounter store-bought versions until college.
My mother would swiftly prepare this syrup for us to enjoy with pancakes, waffles, french toast, biscuits, and cornbread. While slightly less viscous than commercial syrups, we adore it because it is incredibly fast and simple to prepare.
Ingredients for Homemade Pancake Syrup
Making pancake syrup is remarkably easy, requiring only these 3 components:

- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup water
- optional ~ additions like maple or cinnamon
A step-by-step guide to making pancake syrup with brown and white sugar
- Place the brown sugar, white sugar, and water together in a saucepan.

- Set the burner to high and stir until the mixture reaches a boil.

Allow it to boil for several minutes until all the sugars are fully dissolved.
- Remove from the heat and incorporate roughly 1 teaspoon of a flavouring (though we typically skip this).

- Pour the syrup into a suitable serving vessel and serve it alongside waffles, pancakes, french toast, cornbread, and biscuits.

Note that this syrup has a thinner texture compared to store-bought varieties; if you prefer a thicker syrup, this recipe might not suit your taste ;)

Proper storage methods for homemade pancake syrup
Keep any remaining syrup covered in the refrigerator and reheat it when ready to use; it maintains quality for up to 1 month.
