May Highlights: Top Moments, Events and Trends

I know May officially ended six days ago, but it still feels recent enough for a leisurely look back at the month. May brought generous sunshine and clear blue skies, and that bright weather energized a string of home projects, small updates, and a few satisfying design wins.

OUTSIDE PROJECTS

The Outdoor Living Room at my “Thursday House”

Our battered flower beds finally got the attention they needed, and in the process the front patio received a thoughtful makeover. A refreshed curb appeal and healthier planting beds made the space feel renewed—the kind of outside project that adds instant enjoyment every time you come home.

included a fresh new look for the front door—small but impactful updates that improved the overall entrance and created a welcoming first impression.

The sunshine didn’t only spark outdoor work; it motivated some changes inside as well.

INSIDE THE HOUSE:

The living room received a light, airy refresh—what I like to call a little “floofing.” New pillows, rearranged accessories, and fresh flowers helped soften the space, bringing texture, color, and a relaxed, coastal-inspired vibe that makes the room feel inviting and calm.

The master bedroom was also refreshed with a whole new arrangement and updated accents, creating a serene retreat that feels lighter and more cohesive. Simple changes—a new throw, layered linens, and adjusted lighting—made a big difference.

For fellow DIYers who are learning WordPress and graphic design the hands-on way, I made several blog design changes this month and learned a lot in the process. These updates were time-consuming and a little scary, but worth it for the improved look and functionality.

  • The Meteor Slides plug-in was installed to create attractive rotating images in the sidebar.
  • That change led me to explore OpenHook for Thesis, an interesting tool that opens up more flexibility—still a bit mysterious, but intriguing.
  • A new custom font was added for post titles using Google Web Fonts, giving the site a cleaner, more distinctive typography.
  • The sidebar received a subtle color update with a coral accent and dotted borders around widgets, helping key elements stand out visually.
  • I also posted a question on the Thesis support forum—reaching out for help proved to be a quick and effective way to solve problems.

To everyone who reads this little corner of the web: thank you. Blogging without readers would be a very different experience.
