Convert a compact area into a multi-functional space with the assistance of a wall bed cabinet!
After growing weary of transporting and inflating cumbersome air mattresses for visitors, we set out to explore other possibilities for our compact home office guest space.
We discovered an unanticipated & ideal answer – a wall cabinet bed!
What exactly constitutes a wall cabinet bed?
For those unfamiliar with them, a wall bed is a sleeping surface attached by hinges on one side and can be raised vertically for storage against the wall. They typically stand very high on the wall and resemble a substantial cabinet.
Nevertheless a wall cabinet bed possesses a somewhat distinct appearance. It features a mattress that folds into thirds and the entire unit folds up to become a compact cabinet rather than a floor-to-ceiling structure.
It includes a practical drawer at the base for storing bedding, and our specific model also features adorable flip-up nightstands and USB charging ports!
In what manner does a cabinet bed fold upwards?
I figured you might share my curiosity regarding the mechanics of one of these clever cabinet beds, so I captured a recording so you could observe how straightforward they are to fold up. Press the button to witness the enchantment:
Where might one acquire wall cabinet beds?

Wall beds are stocked items in certain furniture retailers, or they can be specially ordered. Fortuitously, we encountered a shopper who had just placed a nearly brand new listing on Facebook marketplace. Thus, that is likely one of the more cost-effective methods to obtain them. (Here is the exact cabinet bed we acquired.) I have also listed below some wall beds that can be purchased online via establishments such as Target, Walmart, and Amazon.
Take note that if you procure a wall bed, they are exceptionally heavy and sizable. Given that we only possess a vehicle, we hired a UHaul cargo van to transport ours. We also had a few young gentlemen assist us in carrying it upstairs.
Anticipate some sticker shock regarding these. They are by no means inexpensive! You can construct your own wall beds using blueprints. However, after evaluating the cost of wall bed hardware, lumber, and the time it would require, we felt purchasing one already constructed was well worth it for us at this juncture.
Tip: We acquired some heavy-duty furniture sliders for carpet so we can slide the wall bed easily on the carpet when we wish to position it on a different wall. Take note that wall cabinet beds are VERY heavy!
