Since the weather has become warm and sunny, my spouse and I enjoy taking evening walks.
We wander through the neighborhood admiring the lovely landscaping and residences.
I particularly enjoy observing the various colors of front doors.
One particular door consistently captures my attention, a beautiful blue set against dark gray siding.
But what about our own front door?
Its color is fixed, which is a bit disappointing.
We reside in a townhouse complex governed by strata rules, one of which mandates uniform front door colors.
Logically it makes sense broadly, yet personal enhancement becomes challenging.
Honestly, I neglected our doors since moving in almost two years ago; it was a necessary task to feel more welcoming.

Here is how we transformed our exterior doors:
1. The interior sections of the doors were painted.
While exterior painting is prohibited by rules, the insides were permissible. Given the main living area is one large space, both front and back doors contribute to the room's overall aesthetic.
The door leading from the kitchen can also be seen from the living and dining areas.
After researching painting metal doors with plastic trim, I primed both the doors and trim, then painted them a dark charcoal shade, Raccoon Fur, from Benjamin Moore. (A complete guide is forthcoming this week).
This change immediately enhanced the entire area.
2. New door handles were installed.
Door hardware complements a home as jewelry enhances an outfit; it's the final detail that completes the look.
For this project, I collaborated with Schlage Canada on selecting new handles. All their items hold BHMA certification, providing builders and homeowners with superior security grade products. Their over 95-year history supports stylish, durable hardware, backed by a limited lifetime mechanical and finish warranty.
Browsing the Schlage website, I favored an aged bronze finish. I felt it matched the Modern Farmhouse style I am aiming for and looked superb against the door's white surface.
For the main entry door, I selected the Addison Single Cylinder Handleset featuring Century trim and a Georgian Knob.
It included clear instructions, and my husband read and executed the entire installation; I handled the photography. :)
With all components and instructions provided, we followed the steps sequentially.
For the rear entry, I selected the Schlage Touch Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt featuring Camelot trim and the Camelot Handleset.
This proved incredibly useful should anyone forget a key; my teenage son once had to access his upstairs window after leaving his behind.
We enjoy this convenient touchscreen so much that we find ourselves using it simply for fun around the house!
3. Enhance the look with plants and decorative items.
I often suggest that a pleasant aspect of home styling is diverting the eye from less appealing spots!
Frankly, this front door wasn't my top choice initially; however, once a cheerful welcome mat, a hung wreath, and several planters with greenery and color were arranged nearby, it looked wonderful!!
I must observe this somewhat plain door...
...has undergone a significant transformation!!
