Transform a plain powder room into a warm welcome spot with items already at home!
Do you frequently switch between different projects?
This small powder room refresh served as a perfect break; I was wrapping up a major One Room Challenge while preparing the house for evening guests.
A few hours before their arrival, I realized guests might need the bathroom during the evening; our powder room is on the main floor but lacked a welcoming feel.
My goal was to tidy it up and soften its least appealing aspects using supplies I already owned.
Quickly Refreshing a Powder Room
Small Powder Room Before
This is how it originally appeared:

It is situated just past the laundry area and painted a blucky beige.
(On a separate thought, capturing photos in these low-light spaces is quite difficult; for instance, the laundry room walls in that image look like a calm blue/green, but in reality, they share the same beige as the bathroom—odd!)
Before capturing the 'before' photo, I had already taken down the long chrome towel bar, the sole feature, leaving two unattractive white squares on the wall…
There is a jack for the telephone line positioned above the toilet…

Despite how unusual this is, it proved beneficial; it connects to the back wall of our garage, allowing the cable technician to install all our home gadgets and keep them hidden! A bonus!!

Sitting on the toilet in my cozy socks, the sight of the dated pink sink and vanity is… rather disheartening…
I aimed to alter the room's atmosphere using artwork to draw attention away from the negative elements.
After exploring various choices, this is what I ultimately did:
Use wall art to camouflage an undesirable paint color.

Introducing a feature wall of prints and frames added visual interest, covered the old towel bar marks, and diverted focus from the room's color (which I truly dislike!!)

Place something attractive on the wall behind the toilet.
Adding a tall display behind the toilet helps the small area feel a bit more open.

Ensure guests have easily accessible necessities.
Spare toilet paper rolls are stored in a basket behind the toilet (I always ensure guests can find them easily…)

Adorn the top of the vanity with faux or real flowers and pleasant lotion.
A hand towel hook, some greenery, lotion, and the reflections from other room decor help distract the eye from the unfortunate pink countertop.
This small powder room is set for a refresh!
Even since I initially shared this content, this compact powder room is undergoing a genuine transformation!
I recently published a collection of inspiring powder room ideas, and the initial task involves repairing the vinyl sheet flooring.
