Blue Bird Psalms Sign — A Story of Comfort and Hope
Around this time last year I sold my very first Blue Bird Psalms sign. What began as a small handmade piece quickly caught on online, and the response surprised me in the most meaningful way.
Pinterest helped that little bird travel far beyond my expectations. As people shared the image, I began receiving emails from strangers asking if I would make and mail the sign. Those requests led to the opening of the Harbour Breeze Etsy shop to accommodate orders and reach more people.
Why the Sign Resonates
It wasn’t the craftsmanship or the design alone that moved people. It was the words painted on the wood:
“He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:4”
These words have been a source of comfort for me in difficult seasons, and they clearly meant something powerful to others as well. Many messages I received were deeply personal: one woman ordered three signs to give to friends undergoing chemotherapy; another bought a sign for a mother grieving the loss of her young son who loved birds; and I still remember the woman who said she wanted this sign for her mother after an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Reading those requests often brought me to tears.
New Designs Inspired by an Old Song
While working on a few pieces the other day, an old hymn began running through my head. Its lines—about abiding safely under His wings, trusting through the night and the storm—sparked a new idea. I designed a baby bird sign inspired by that hymn and the comforting image it evokes.
“Under His wings, I am safely abiding,
Tho the night deepens and tempests are wild;
Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me and I am His child.”
The baby bird sign is now available alongside some of the original designs. Canada Post has confirmed that, if mailed promptly, orders to the United States can still arrive in time for Christmas—so I’ve been working to make and mail out more pieces quickly.
Seasonal and Gift Options
With the holidays approaching, I added a few Christmas-themed signs to the collection as well. Each piece is created with the same heart: to offer a small reminder of hope, comfort, and shelter during challenging times and celebrations alike.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has purchased from the shop and for the patience shown while I created more signs. Each order and message reminds me why I started crafting these pieces: to offer a tangible expression of care when words alone sometimes aren’t enough.
