Quick Update: Joining a Fashion Course and Loving It
I’m up at the camp kitchen today, cooking for a group of hungry men, but I wanted to stop in and share a short, cheerful update about something I’m enjoying right now.
This week I decided to sign up for an online fashion course called “Put Your Pretty On.” Today is day six of receiving an “outfit of the day” email—what the course calls an OOTD—and so far the experience has been pleasantly surprising.
I haven’t gone shopping for everything on the suggested lists yet, and honestly I was relieved to discover that I already own many of the items they recommend. That made putting together some of the suggested looks feel much more doable than I expected.
Taking part in this has been so much fun. For years I’ve joked that I’d love to be on the show “What Not to Wear” just so someone could tell me exactly what to buy and how to wear it. I can shop for home décor with confidence, but when it comes to trying on a stack of shirts in a dressing room, I get overwhelmed and would rather avoid it altogether. This course removes that pressure and makes styling feel approachable and playful.
One of the biggest surprises has been the private Facebook group that accompanies the course. Every person who signs up can join the closed group, and the ladies there have been the kindest, most encouraging community. Sharing photos, asking for feedback, and celebrating each other’s progress has felt like having a circle of supportive friends cheering one another on.
Sharing selfies was a big step for me. I tend to crop in tight and focus only on my face so that other areas go unnoticed, but posting full outfits in the group helped me see myself more clearly and get constructive, positive responses from other members. The replies I received felt genuine and uplifting—like a band of sisters offering thoughtful compliments and helpful suggestions.

The supportive feedback made me realize how motivating it is to be part of a group pursuing the same goal—discovering a personal style that feels confident, comfortable, and true to who you are. The course is designed with women over 40 in mind, but I’ve seen participants of many ages join and benefit from the lessons and community interaction.
Although I haven’t followed every shopping suggestion to the letter, the daily outfit prompts have helped me experiment with combinations I might not have tried otherwise. It’s a gentle way to broaden a wardrobe without expensive, frantic shopping trips. The course encourages using pieces you already own and adding a few strategic items when and if you want to refresh your closet.

If you’re curious about trying a short online styling program, this one has just opened for registration again. It offers daily outfit ideas, practical shopping lists, and a private community where members exchange encouragement and styling advice. Even if you’re hesitant about selfies or sharing looks at first, the online group made that step feel safe and supportive for me.

I’ll be heading back to the kitchen now, but I wanted to leave you with this: small, guided steps toward refining your style can be surprising, fun, and confidence-building—especially when you do it with a kind community cheering you on. If you decide to explore a course like this, consider starting with pieces you already own and use the group for honest, encouraging feedback.
Disclosure: I joined the course’s affiliate program, so if you sign up through the course’s materials you may be supporting my new brown boots fund.
Wishing you a lovely weekend and a little spark of style inspiration!
