Guest Room Transformations at Camp Homewood
This week I’m blogging over at our camp’s blog about a project that’s close to my heart: four beautiful guest room renovations at Camp Homewood. These transformations were possible because generous donors “adopted” the rooms and funded complete makeovers. The results are inspiring, thoughtful, and designed to welcome guests with comfort and style.
Shauna, a friend and fellow Camp Homewood staff wife, led the design work for all four rooms. With a clear vision and practical creativity, she planned each space to be warm, durable, and easy to maintain for a camp setting. Her husband Daryl and our maintenance team member Joel — both trained carpenters — brought those plans to life. Their craftsmanship turned each room into something beyond what we imagined, blending practical longevity with attractive finishes.
Each makeover followed the same thoughtful process: assess the existing condition, identify durable materials suitable for frequent use, prioritize comfort for overnight guests, and incorporate design touches that reflect the camp’s character. The donor-funded model allowed for higher-quality materials and more extensive updates than a typical maintenance refresh, so the rooms now feel fresh, intentional, and welcoming.

Two of the rooms — the Ranch Room and the Cabin Room — have full before-and-after tours that showcase the scope of the work and the thoughtful details. Those tours walk you through the choices Shauna made, the carpentry updates from Daryl and Joel, and the finishing touches that make these spaces practical for camp life while still feeling like a comfortable, personal retreat.

Seeing these before-and-after photos highlights how a well-planned renovation can elevate function and appearance simultaneously. Donor-funded projects like this allow camps to upgrade safety and comfort features while injecting thoughtful design that honors the camp’s identity. Camp guests and visiting families will notice the difference immediately—clean lines, comfortable bedding, practical storage, and finishes that hold up to frequent use.
I’m eager to share more details from Shauna’s approach: her selection process for durable fabrics, smart storage solutions for shared spaces, and small styling ideas that have big impact. In upcoming posts I hope to provide a few how-tos and material sources so others can replicate similar updates in guest rooms, rental properties, or community spaces. Shauna generously agreed to let me share her ideas, so I’ll be posting step-by-step suggestions and shopping lists soon.
The project is a great example of teamwork and community support — donors who wanted to leave a lasting mark on the camp, a talented designer who understands both beauty and practicality, and skilled carpenters who executed the vision with care. Together they created rooms that will serve guests well for years to come.
For now, I need to head up to the camp kitchen, but I’ll be back with more photos, tips, and sources for these guest room transformations. If you’re interested in renovating a guest room yourself, keep an eye out for the upcoming posts that break down the process and materials used.
Hope you’re having a wonderful week, and I’ll see you soon with more renovation inspiration from Camp Homewood.
