Favorite Christmas Baking and Holiday Treats
My holiday decorating and baking always seem to run a little behind schedule, but the season still arrives on time. This year I managed to get most of the treats together little by little. A special shout-out to Connie—she baked 720 squares for the camp, which was an incredible help and took a huge load off my plate.
Below are some of our family’s favorite Christmas treats, described with simple tips and serving ideas so you can enjoy them during the busy holiday stretch. These are the recipes and traditions we return to year after year.

Overnight Buns
Overnight buns are a lifesaver during the holidays because you can prepare dough ahead and bake fresh rolls when you need them. One batch can yield both soft dinner rolls and a slightly sweeter breakfast bread for Christmas morning, which makes them perfect for a festive menu. For a reliable texture, handle the dough gently and allow it to rise slowly in a cool spot overnight. Shape the dough into even portions, place them on a baking tray, and brush with melted butter after baking for a golden, tender crust.

Christmas Chocolates
Making dipped chocolates has become a family ritual for us. We save this task for when Brad and Joel are home so it becomes a shared tradition—there’s something special about assembling chocolates together while catching up. Work on a clean, cool surface, temper the chocolate carefully for a shiny finish, and use small spoons or forks to dip centers and coat them evenly. Chill the finished candies on parchment until firm. Pack them in boxes or tins for thoughtful homemade gifts.

Soft and Yummy Sugar Cookies
Soft sugar cookies are a holiday classic—perfect for decorating or for a simple, comforting treat with tea or cocoa. To keep them tender, avoid overworking the dough and chill it briefly before rolling. Use cookie cutters for festive shapes, and decorate with colorful icing or sprinkles once cookies are completely cool. They travel well and are always a hit at gatherings, especially when children are involved in the decorating.

Christmas Fudge
Fudge is another staple on our holiday platter—rich, creamy, and easy to portion into squares for sharing. A smooth texture comes from careful stirring and proper temperature control while cooking. Mix-ins like chopped nuts, a sprinkle of sea salt, or a drizzle of caramel can elevate the flavor, but a classic chocolate or vanilla fudge is always a crowd-pleaser. Store in an airtight container and layer with parchment to keep the pieces from sticking together.

Steam Pudding with Vanilla Cream Sauce
For a warm, comforting dessert, steam pudding served with a vanilla cream sauce is a wonderful choice. The pudding is moist and tender, and the sauce adds richness and a touch of sweetness that makes this dessert feel especially festive. Serve it hot or warm, portioned into individual bowls, and spoon the vanilla cream over each serving. This dessert is ideal for colder weather and pairs beautifully with a cup of coffee or tea after a holiday meal.
