Sometimes a project springs to mind and feels straightforward: I set a clear goal and dive right in. Bing. Bang. Boom. Before I know it, there’s a dreadful “before” photo and a satisfying “after.”
Other times a small idea spirals into a sequence of unexpected steps that seem never-ending. My closet makeover has been one of those projects.
I shared my dream vision and a spark of inspiration, thinking I could finish a quick refresh in a few days. Silly me. What began as a simple plan has become much more — in the best possible way.
This overhaul reminded me of a show I used to watch, where Peter Walsh and his team would help people who were overwhelmed by clutter. They gently but firmly guided homeowners through why they held on to so many things and helped them make lasting changes. There was always a psychological element, sometimes tears, but by the end the families felt renewed, lighter, and excited about their fresh, organized spaces.
“I make a promise – you cannot make your best choice or your healthiest choice in a cluttered, messy, disorganised home; it just doesn’t happen. Your home should be a place you create that enables you to live the life you want.” — Peter Walsh
Here’s a confession: I’ve been feeling unattractive for a long time. That was hard to admit. A lot of it comes down to weight that crept up over the years and that I hadn’t addressed. For some reason I’d unconsciously decided that until I got thinner, it wasn’t worth spending time, money, or effort on my appearance. I’d fallen into a defeatist “we’ll just make do” mindset.
Surprisingly, working on my closet opened up a deeper personal transformation. I decided to take action and found an online fashion course aimed at women over 40. I invested $24.99 and it turned out to be a fantastic value. The course starts by giving you a concise shopping list and focuses on building a capsule wardrobe: the idea that you’ll wear the best 20% of your clothes most of the time, so why not buy—and keep—those pieces?
Daily emails deliver an outfit suggestion that pairs the capsule pieces in fresh ways. I discovered I already owned many of the recommended items and, even better, I began enjoying new combinations that boosted my confidence. There’s also an optional private Facebook group where participants share looks and encourage one another — a really kind and uplifting community.
Now there’s a seasonal challenge launching that I want to tell you about: the Winter Style Me Pretty Challenge. It’s designed to help you create a compact winter/holiday capsule and gives you outfit inspiration for everyday life and special occasions.
How the Winter Style Me Pretty Challenge Works
The challenge starts with a winter/holiday shopping list of wardrobe essentials. You may already own many of the pieces, so you won’t have to spend a lot. After you assemble your capsule, you’ll receive 21 days of outfit combinations created from those items, delivered daily to your inbox so you can plan your look each evening for the next day.
What’s Included
- Winter/Holiday Basics Shopping List — A practical list of essentials with recommendations and a printable PDF for shopping.
- 21 Days of Daily Outfits — Different outfit combinations each day developed from the capsule pieces. Dressy looks are provided along with the shopping list so you can prepare for holiday events.
- Private Facebook Group — A supportive community to share photos, styling tips, and encouragement.
The challenge focuses on cozy, casual outfits for busy days plus a few dressier options for parties and events. You can shop where you prefer and adapt the pieces to your comfort and style. There’s a two-week money-back guarantee if you decide it’s not for you.
Timeline (example dates)
- Registration opens in late November.
- Shopping list and dressy outfit suggestions are released around Black Friday.
- Daily outfit emails run for three weeks in December.
Cost and Value
Working one-on-one with a stylist would cost significantly more, but this group-style challenge is priced affordably to make great style accessible. The goal is to help you build a versatile wardrobe that feels both attainable and practical.
You’ll notice registration opens this Friday, giving you a little time to think it over. If you decide to join, know that many participants find the structure, the shopping list, and the community highly motivating — especially when you’re trying to refresh your closet without cluttering it.
Buying into this process has helped me feel lighter, more put-together, and more willing to show up for myself now — not later. As a small, brave step, I even snapped a selfie of today’s outfit to mark the progress.
I’ll share updates this week as the closet project continues. It’s not finished yet, but I’d be delighted if you joined me on this journey toward a prettier, more confident life and a more functional, inspiring closet.
