The Initial State of the Classroom:
This expansive classroom serves as one of the church’s versatile gathering halls. The area sees frequent use! At any moment, various groups may be present, ranging from young children to elderly individuals.
A central partition was incorporated into the design, allowing the space to be split for two smaller gatherings if necessary. Alternatively, with the partition retracted, the room can host a congregation of roughly fifty adults.
Given the high volume of traffic this area receives, it was crying out for an update. Wall decorations secured with adhesive had caused drywall damage, seating had created indentations in the plaster, and the existing hue had lost its vibrancy.
Following the repair and priming of all imperfections and dings (as depicted above), it was time to apply a new layer of paint.
The selected shade was Revere Pewter, offered by Sherwin Williams.
Utilizing the Wagner SMART Roller
Prior to rolling, I trimmed the edges around the crown molding, baseboards, and junctions using my preferred brush.

We were delighted to employ Wagner’s SMART roller, which accelerated this task considerably!
An Overview of the Wagner SMART Roller
Those unfamiliar with the SMART roller should know it is a device that pulls paint into a hollow shaft via a trigger mechanism. This design removes the necessity of a traditional paint tray setup!
The process of scooping paint into a tray, saturating the roller, and maneuvering it across the room is completely bypassed, saving a tremendous amount of time!
Although the walls in this area measured ten feet in height, in a typical eight-foot scenario, even someone of shorter stature (like myself!) can readily access the upper sections for faster application.
What is the procedure for using a Wagner SMART roller?
The Wagner SMART roller ships with every component required and straightforward guidelines. A crucial step in assembly involves applying petroleum jelly (provided in the package) to all rubber valve components. This step guarantees a tight seal and facilitates paint intake into the handle.
We encountered initial challenges getting the paint to flow, so we removed the black plastic cap and applied the nozzle straight into the paint container. By pressing down firmly on the nozzle and pulling back gradually, the paint was drawn into the reservoir.

What is the approximate duration required to paint a room using a Wagner SMART roller?
Naturally, numerous elements contribute to this inquiry! However, as a point of reference, we completed painting this spacious room in two and a half hours. On occasion, we worked side-by-side, and my spouse had to step away briefly for some engagements...
The Classroom Transformation
Updating the paint was the central element of this room renovation. Shifting from an old-fashioned beige shade to a contemporary gray provided a revitalized appearance. After everything was tidied and prepared for upcoming sessions, this is the result!
