This rental property features a charming deck, situated not with a water or mountain vista, but nestled among other city residences.
One sunny afternoon, while enjoying coffee with my husband, I realized I wanted to enhance this outdoor area.

Four chairs and a barbecue alone do not create an exciting deck.
Being prone to overcomplicating plans, I set a simple goal: completely transform the space in a single day.
The party cart initiated this project, quite literally!
Since the blue chairs were already present, I selected a vibrant, affordable Walmart outdoor rug to complement them and ground the space.

Incorporating existing items, such as the foldable outdoor side table, adds useful utility for coffee or an iced water. Our son's wake board near the corner introduces more beach-blue and offers some seclusion.

Instead of a large coffee table, an inverted crate serves perfectly for propping feet and holding reading material (perhaps with castors?). An unused white and pink nightstand was revitalized with a fresh aqua blue paint, providing the perfect color accent!

Simple foliage was placed in planters we already had stored in the garage.

I chose succulents like hens & chicks because they are forgiving regarding irregular watering.

The painted pew provides extra seating, shielded from rain by the overhead overhang.
The entire deck is visible from the kitchen sink; witnessing this delightful little area:

is significantly more enjoyable than its previous state!
The barbecue has been moved to the opposite side, neatly obscuring the view into our neighbor's closet kitchen window and deck.
This leads to my main inquiry: What are some appealing and functional privacy solutions for city decks you have discovered? I am eager to learn about your excellent ideas!
