In our busy daily lives, prioritizing self-care frequently gets overlooked, seeming like extra work. However, during a Zoom business class, I allowed myself a perfect multitasking moment: tending to my long-neglected feet and hands with a soak, scrub, and polish.
The experience was truly delightful; my skin feels smooth, my toes have a vibrant polish, and I feel more like my authentic self.
While an upscale island spa would be ideal with an unlimited budget, a homemade pedicure offers comparable luxury for significantly less expense.
If you are new to at-home pedicures or feel uncertain about the process, Bildirimlerim presents this simple, step-by-step guide to transform an average afternoon into a serene spa escape.
Simple DIY Pedicure Guide: 7 Easy Steps
- Establish a comfortable setting and choose your entertainment. Settle into a cozy chair and set the ambiance; I often enjoy a fun TV show, a Hallmark movie, or a podcast while unwinding.

2. Assemble Necessary Items Keeping everything close by aids in maintaining relaxation. Here is what I prefer to use:
- A dishpan (strictly for feet!) containing warm, soapy water
- Foot scrub
- Rich lotion (I rely on Mary Kay’s Extra Emollient Night Cream)
- Foot file or pumice stone
- Nail clippers and file
- Cuticle oil
- Q-tips for cuticle care
- Base coat, nail polish, and top coat (currently favoring OPI Cajun Shrimp!)
- Soft towel and washcloth
My preferred supplies can be viewed in my Amazon shop link here.

3. Immerse your feet. Fill the dishpan with warm water and add bubbles of any kind. Allow your feet to soak for 10–15 minutes while you relax and de-stress.

4. Soften and gently exfoliate.
Remove one foot at a time and massage a generous layer of Extra Emollient Night Cream onto it. Let it rest for several minutes to soften any dry patches.
Next, scrub the foot with the foot scrub and rinse. Use the foot file or pumice stone to lightly buff away rough areas. Repeat this process on the second foot.

5. Hydrate and prepare the nails.
Apply a fragrant lotion (I enjoy Peppermint & Plum). Then, clip and shape your nails. Apply cuticle oil and carefully push back cuticles using a Q-tip.
6. Apply polish to your toes.
Next, apply a base layer using Stickey, followed by two layers of the chosen color, and seal everything with a top coat. Ensure complete drying before putting on socks or walking.

7. Admire your lovely feet!
Your feet will appear and feel wonderful, whether you wear sandals or remain in snug socks.

Indulge Yourself — You Merit It
It is remarkable how a simple act like painting your toenails can brighten your mood. These small routines contribute to a feeling of warmth and attentiveness at home—and you deserve that same attention.
