The New Pretty

My days are filled with lists ~ to-do lists, menu ideas, grocery lists, and schedules. Things here at Camp Homewood are ramping up to “full tilt,” and I’m working hard to stay ahead of everything in the camp kitchen.

Lately I’ve been posting a Fashion Over 40 post each Wednesday. I joined Alison’s Spring Fashion Challenge, and she graciously included me in a lovely post. I’ve been so inspired to see how other ladies are gaining confidence in their clothing choices and learning to feel “pretty” and self-assured in how they look.

I’m working on that in a whole different way these days. My “cute and comfortable” look most often includes close-toed, food-safe approved shoes and an apron!

I will also probably be giving my 24 hour deodorant a real workout and smelling like onions!

Sounds pretty, doesn’t it? ;)

The other day, my friend Sue and I were wandering around a beautiful gift shop down island. Amid the grain sack pillows and gorgeous chalk-painted furniture, I spotted a sign that said this:

HAPPY IS THE NEW PRETTY

It stopped me in my tracks.

I totally agree. When a person is filled with joy and laughter and encourages others to see the bright blessings in life, that is one of the most beautiful things of all.

That is my prayer for my life ~ especially in this season of hard work, long days, and cooking meals (which I don’t really love to do!)…

Even though my fashion might be far from “the latest trend,” I’m praying for a heart filled to overflowing with the beautiful fragrance of Jesus, one that spills over and brings joy to those He places in my path.

I need to remind myself of that often… and to also “marinate” in and rest in His presence, even when my days are packed to the brim with hard work.

I’d appreciate your prayers for me in the busy months ahead. I have no idea how often I’ll be able to post on this blog, but you can be sure I’ll pop in whenever I can. If you notice long stretches without a post, just picture me up in the camp kitchen…

cooking and laughing up a storm… ;)
