Crafting an Easy Farmhouse Table Setting

Incorporate varied patterns and textures

Start a classic farmhouse tablesetting with placemats and table runner.

Farmhouse designs featuring stripes, florals, and checks work well; blend small, medium, and large patterns and textures.

While not identical to the pictured items, these lovely round placemats and this table runner are excellent choices.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns when setting a casual farmhouse table.

I particularly enjoy the small, chunky checked texture of the runner paired with the cotton linen appearance of the placemat.

Place vessels of different heights along the center of the table

Arrange a centerpiece by placing differing heights of vases and pitchers.

Using a budget metal tobacco basket (see a complete set of wood tobacco baskets here) as the central piece, I arranged other pitchers and vases along the runner.

For a laid-back farmhouse setting, perfection in matching isn't necessary; I included a mint vase and blue pitcher, and the combination was wonderful.

Round wicker chargers beneath the plates add visual depth and interest; layering colorful salad plates atop the dinner plates is also a pleasing option.

Napkin styling can be highly creative—like this or this—but this time, I simply placed a white cloth napkin through a square marble napkin ring (another great find after Christmas!).

Include attractive glassware paired with coasters

Introduce color using flowers and greenery

Add seasonal flowers or faux greenery to finish off the farmhouse centerpiece.

I was delighted to find our small yellow daisies had begun blooming during our absence, so I gathered them and some white stock from our garden that morning for the table.

Artificial greenery, such as the grass in the small pots, serves as a pleasant substitute for fresh blooms.
