Explore elements for a classic Christmas farmhouse tablescape

Truthfully, my instinct is often to just purchase everything I adore
This happened recently while I was browsing a shop, passing displays of glittering gold and soft white holiday decorations. I paused at a charming, whimsical arrangement featuring aqua blue and red, accented by vintage-style lettering.
Then I discovered my perfect section, stocked with woven table runners, small white dishes featuring red pick-up trucks, black plaid napkins, and jute napkin rings with rusty jingle bells—it felt incredibly familiar…
I was so excited that I began gathering items for my cart: 5 napkin rings, 5 small plates, the napkins, and the runner. Beautiful visions of a perfect table filled my mind.
When I saw the final total, oh my! I then returned those items to the shelves.
Yet, I certainly didn't disregard all those lovely things that excited my spirit…
Instead, I went home and worked to replicate a similar aesthetic using what I already owned.
A Simple Classic Christmas Farmhouse Setting
As I have learned previously, financial constraints often boost creativity. This became a joyful challenge, revealing that I do not require more possessions (that demand extra storage) to prepare our home for the holidays!

Begin with a neutral foundation

The table linens offer a perfect neutral farmhouse vibe! This combination includes a plain linen tablecloth, a woven gray checked runner, and farmhouse striped placemats. (For a list of farmhouse table decor items inspired by Joanna Gaines, see here.)
The round wicker chargers beneath the plates introduce wonderful texture and depth to the entire arrangement.
Opt for white dinnerware

Even though I sometimes prefer designing tables around my Mom’s china, the farmhouse style looks best with straightforward white dishes. These were a Christmas gift from my husband several years ago, and I cherish them.
Layer napkins and plates

Observing other tablescapes has taught me that an attractive table usually involves multiple layers. Tuck in the napkins and display the salad plates (and even small bowls for an added layer); these additions build a rich, complete appearance.
Position focal items in the table's middle
For this uncomplicated centerpiece, I arranged staggered candle holders (of varying heights), artificial greenery, pine cones, and the burlap gifts I crafted a few weeks prior.

Conclude with a charming place card holder

This wooden gift placecard holder was a very easy project utilizing leftover 2 x 4s from the garage. When not on the table as place card holders, they rest on my farmhouse shelves in the Dining Room.
