Guidance for hosting a holiday gathering in a compact area is here:
Following my move into a townhouse a short while ago, hosting a Christmas party in a small space became a wonderful learning experience.
With thoughtful advance preparation, the event turned into a truly lovely Christmas memory.

Hosting a Small Christmas Party Successfully
I discovered that strategic preparation allows a small space to comfortably accommodate extra guests for a fun party!
Here are my top suggestions for planning a gathering in a limited space.
Get your food ready ahead of time.
No one enjoys rushing around with food while dinner guests are arriving; prepping early significantly reduces stress.

This particular event was a potluck where every guest brought something. I provided a Chocolate Pumpkin Bundt Cake with butterscotch icing, which I baked the day prior and only needed to apply icing on the day of the party.
Tidy up and minimize excess decorations.
Before the extra 11 people arrived, I ensured there was ample room for them and their belongings! I tidied our small main room, cleared space in the entryway closet for coats, and moved some decorations from the end tables to ensure room for coffee cups and gifts from our planned gift exchange.
Arrange the table – A simple Christmas setting

Decorating the table is truly my favorite aspect of hosting!
A modest centerpiece featured some fresh roses and greenery sourced from the grocery store.

The table featured a neutral tablecloth, alternating wicker and gold plate chargers, and china provided by my mom.

Fostoria glasses lent a touch of brilliance to the table arrangement.

Folding simple white cloth napkins into tree shapes, topped with a small glass ball, was an enjoyable touch.
I was pleased to have precisely enough cloth napkins, and I found this simple and fun tutorial for folding them.

Prepare beverage trays
Before the guests arrived, I set up the coffee maker so it was ready with the push of a button.

Subsequently, a silver tray held 2 sets of cream and sugars (placed at opposite ends of the table when needed) alongside the teapot for after-dinner tea.
Designate an area for food placement

The buffet situated directly behind the table proved to be the ideal location for all the food contributed by the guests.

Plan for Games and Activities
Our ladies' night featured both a festive Christmas craft session and a very funny gift exchange game.

After dinner, we tidied up and I instructed everyone on crafting simple paper star ornaments; it was fast, uncomplicated, and needed minimal materials.
We then gathered in the Living Room for the exchange, where every present had to be under $5 and be the oddest or strangest item sourced from a thrift store.
The whole event proved to be incredibly amusing!
Even within a limited area, we forged wonderful recollections from a delightful evening spent together.
