Decorate your tree with these simple, no-fuss ideas inspired by Scandinavian decor.

A Simple Scandinavian Inspired Christmas Tree

Scandinavian style decor is simple and free of clutter.
This cozy Christmas theme was inspired by the simplicity of Scandinavian hygge decor. I was drawn to its thoughtful touches that feel cozy, relaxed, and clutter-free.
A few years ago, my husband and I moved from a fairly large historic farmhouse by the sea to a (much) smaller townhouse. It took a lot of purging and many decisions, but we have no regrets. We love our cozy little home, and the idea of “clutter free” appeals to me more and more! Our little tree sits in the corner of our dining room, which opens onto the living room.
A Simple Scandinavian Style Tree

Instead of stuffing it with ribbon and a pile of Christmas balls, I chose to decorate the tree simply this year. Studying Scandinavian style gave me the courage to go much simpler. Still, our tree is fuller than the sparsely decorated trees often seen in Nordic style.
I chose handmade ornaments: crocheted snowflakes (a keepsake from my mother-in-law) and some fabric scrap Christmas trees with stamped sentiments. Wood slice ornaments add a nice natural texture, and a few neutral Christmas balls fill in the gaps.
I fell in love with some simple “Joy” ornaments and white reindeer that our local Walmart had in store. (Sorry, I couldn’t find them online.) They’re nice and flat, so they don’t take up much storage space!

The antique buffet is my favorite piece of furniture in the house. It has special meaning because it sat in the farmhouse in Montana where I grew up. A few years ago, we built simple DIY farmhouse shelves to hang above it. They’re so fun to decorate for each season!
