In this article: Discover easy ideas for creating a farmhouse look with this Christmas tour of our townhouse!
Update November 2022: I first wrote this post a few years ago. To be honest, I don’t have a single Christmas decoration up at this point. It’s still pumpkins and Fall leaves around here!
But as you start planning your own Christmas decorations, I thought you might enjoy a tour of our little place all dressed up in its farmhouse-style Christmas decor. Welcome to our little home!

This year I’ve had so much fun putting together the Home-Made Christmas series. Over the past few weeks we’ve
- picked up ideas for organization
- learned about decorating with nature,
- made handmade decor ~ like burlap wrapped gifts and a farmhouse sign,
- rounded up handmade gift ideas,
- whipped up sweet (no bake!) treats,
- been inspired by Joanna Gaines’ Christmas table, and
- even tried out the easiest turkey dinner ever.
I enjoyed wandering through Christmas projects and savouring everything “home-made Christmas”.
Now it was time to get our little townhouse decorated, and I feel like this post is overdue!
The sun finally peeked out long enough for photos, and although I could still add a few more touches to our townhouse Christmas decor, I’m not going to. We’re calling it done for this year.
So, without further ado, come on in, friends!
A Farmhouse Christmas Tour (in a Townhouse)
If you’re new to our story, we moved from a large farmhouse by the sea into a townhouse 2 years ago (in September). This is our 3rd Christmas here, and I have to say, this little place feels more like home all the time.
The Living Room

This room is where we spend most of our time. It’s the entryway, living room, and dining room all rolled into one neat little package!

We still love the LaZboy couch we bought earlier this year, and you’ll find me there in the evenings with my feet up, watching sappy Hallmark Christmas movies!;)

I kept the gallery wall arrangement much like it was, but I added Winter printables and a few DIY mini flocked Christmas trees on the shelves. After Christmas, I can leave that whole display up and call it “Winter decor”.

We put the final touches on our “built in” Billy Bookcase wall system (across from the couch) earlier this year. Adding an extra shelf to take the unit up to the ceiling, plus custom trim, made it look built in. The shiplap in the middle is the icing on the cake for me. It brought in the farmhouse feel my heart was longing for…
The Dining Room

The Christmas tree sits between the dining and living room spaces, and we love its twinkly lights on these dark, rainy West Coast winter days.

I lifted the tree onto a wooden stool and used a vintage wool blanket as a tree skirt. Lifting it higher gave me room to set out a display of vintage items with tons of sentimental value. (And it leaves more room for presents, too.)

The red chair was my Grandpa’s chair when he was a boy. The suitcase behind it stored my baby doll clothes, and the wooden cupboard was my mom’s play dishes cupboard. Rolled up maps add to the display, along with corbels, greenery, and my Mother-in-Law’s bell collection.

The Dining Room’s farmhouse shelves are my favorite thing to decorate.

A little old ladder tucked into the corner is a perfect spot to add more greenery and twinkle lights to this small space.
The table is set with the DIY wooden gift place settings I made a few weeks ago. When they aren’t in use on the table, I add them (and the centerpiece greenery) to the farmhouse shelves as well.

Thank you so much for stopping by to join me on this Christmas tour of our little townhouse (with a farmhouse heart!).
