Crafting DIY CHRISTMAS PLACE CARD HOLDERS
These handcrafted holiday placecard holders look just like festive presents!;) Regardless of initial plans, gifts are my Christmas focus this year!
This endeavor cleverly utilizes leftover 2×4 ends from your garage and is remarkably swift to complete!

Required Materials List:
- a 2 x 4 board cut to 3 1/2 inches (to form a square)
- wood stain
- foam brush
- rag
- your preferred fabric or ribbon (I utilized fabric strips instead of ribbon; consider holiday red plaid or blackberry plaid for ribbon options)
- artificial greenery – such as these examples
- glue gun and glue sticks
- paper tag punch
- decorative paper or cardstock for the name tag
Stain the Wood Blocks First
I applied stain using the foam brush and wiped clean with a rag, mirroring the technique shown here. Ensure every surface of each block receives stain.
Attach the Ribbon
Take two ribbon sections (or fabric strips) and wrap them up from the base, affixing them to the top center using the glue gun.
*Helpful Tip: When using a hot glue gun, dispense the glue, pause for several seconds, and then place the object; this prevents repeated finger burns!
Incorporate Faux Greenery
Affix layers of artificial foliage using a hot glue gun, finishing with decorative pieces such as pine cones, faux berries, or jingle bells.
*A helpful suggestion: I started with some aged plastic faux greenery at the base and then layered on more lifelike greenery above it.
Insert name tags
Cut out name tags with a paper tag punch and place them beneath the greenery; while I utilized old book pages, cardstock also functions perfectly.
*Another tip: For extra embellishment, you might punch a hole in the top of the name tags and secure them to the greenery using jute or baker’s twine.

Other Suggestions:
- For a straightforward and vibrant alternative to standard place cards, consider using aged wooden blocks featuring each guest's initial (as shown here).
- Instead of applying a stain to the wood block, you have the option to paint it any desired hue, matching it with various ribbons; a white 'gift' accented with shimmering ribbon achieves an elegant feel over a rustic one.
- If you wish to position these present place card settings beside each guest's beverage glass, a creative folded napkin approach is possible, such as this Christmas tree folded napkin, or this style folded like a pocket for silverware.
