Quick and simple DIY farmhouse Christmas decoration idea

Inspired by the Christmas sections at Hobby Lobby, I chose to create some farmhouse-style accents for our farmhouse shelves, starting with the burlap wrapped gift. Finishing that prompted the thought: how about a wooden gift accent? Surely, nothing screams farmhouse like wood?
This endeavor proved remarkably fast, straightforward, and economical; you might even possess the necessary items in your garage already :)

Crafting a Wood Block Gift for Farmhouse Christmas

Materials required:
- Two sections of 2 x 4, each cut to 3 inches
- wood stain, specifically Minwax wood stain in Early American
- foam brush
- rag
- wood glue
- wood clamp
- aluminum tape
- faux greenery
- decorations such as pine cones or jingle bells
Apply stain to every surface of the wood except for one flat side per block.

I used the foam brush to apply the stain, then immediately wiped it off with a rag. Ensure only one flat side remains unstained because unstained wood bonds better, meaning this area will be glued. (Proceed to the next step.)
Affix the two blocks together

Using wood glue, apply adhesive to the unstained part of one block and align the two pieces, ensuring they meet evenly and flatly.
Secure with a clamp and allow to dry

This drying period is the longest part of the process; I left the blocks to cure overnight (though it actually required about 5 days) before moving on to subsequent stages when I had time.
Measure and cut two pieces of aluminum tape for wrapping under and around the block.

Remove backing and secure the tape

Discovering this aluminum tape was a pleasant surprise and incredibly simple to employ. When I mentioned wanting a wooden gift resembling a galvanized metal ribbon to my husband, he immediately knew the solution. As a bonus, we already had some from our son’s room, which he bought for a car repair.
You can locate aluminum tape within the vehicle repair area of a hardware shop, and it genuinely resembles metal once applied.
Position a collection of silver tinsel as a base layer on top

While starting this endeavor, I found a silver wreath at a dollar store among my second-hand finds. To create a foundation for attaching the desired greenery, I gathered some curly tinsel from the wreath and affixed it with glue.
Decorate using artificial foliage and small details

Tiny pieces of artificial greenery were glued into the tinsel layer, and a pine cone was placed on top.

And there it is! A wonderfully fast and economical farmhouse-inspired decoration perfect for your dwelling.

More Suggestions:
- To achieve a contrasting aesthetic, substitute the aluminum tape with strips of plaid flannel or cotton fabric.
- Craft smaller replicas of these to serve as place card holders for your festive table.
