Cozy fall decorating ideas built around sunflower yellow, plus updated neutral decor picks you can shop now and use year after year.
Every time I notice the seasons changing outside, I like to make a few changes that reflect the same season inside our house. Here in the Pacific Northwest, fall often means gray skies and rain, so I love cozying up the house with things that feel warm and comforting, with a little brightness and cheer mixed in.
This post was written a few years ago, when I decorated with sunflower yellow. I’m definitely not decorating exactly the same way this year, but it still offers simple ideas for cozying up your home for fall by swapping out a few key areas.
At the end of this post, I’ve added some updated neutral fall decor picks you can buy now. They feel current, you can use them year after year, and they work across other seasons too. I hope this inspires you (and gets you excited!) to cozy up your own home for pumpkin spice and sweater weather.

Sunflower Yellow Fall Decor Ideas for the Living Room
Lots of living happens in our small townhouse’s open concept living and dining room. It’s where I love to change up the decor seasonally (using things I already have!).

I like to start seasonal decorating with the throw pillows on the couch. I recently discovered how easy it is to make zippered pillow covers. They don’t require much fabric, and they don’t take up much room to store!
For Fall, I added a sunflower yellow pillow to the mix of warm rust and harvest gold. The pattern mixing adds to the boho casual living room style (with a little Coastal Grandmother thrown in) that I’m drawn to these days.

A trip to a nearby Micheals store helped me find some real faux sunflowers.
I added them to other Fall faux foliage and placed everything in a stoneware pitcher to bring a pop of Fall color to the space.
(Later, I turned them into a Fall Wreath for the front door!)

I also fell in love with a cute Fall display at Micheals, which is perfect for the center of the coffee table. When you live in a small space, a coffee table cluttered with a large display just doesn’t work for us.

I replaced the white and yellow decor in the billy bookcase units with pieces that felt more “warm and cozy.”
Things like antique books, wooden boxes and bowls, candles, leather accents, black decor, and baskets are perfect for Fall decor.

Decorating with pumpkins is also a quick way to add Fall style to a room. These little pumpkins on a cake stand bring some Fall color to the mostly neutral decor on the living room bookshelves.
Sunflower Yellow Fall Decor Ideas for the Dining Room
Behind the living room is our dining room. I love decorating it for each season!

The DIY farmhouse shelves above our antique buffet are the perfect place to scatter some yellow fall decor.
In fact, the sunflower sign inspired all of my Fall decorating this year!

I didn’t even know I was looking for it until it found me… ;)
I loved adding vintage Pyrex, ironstone dishes, and my mom’s Fostoria glasses to the shelf.

I absolutely love quick, easy fall table decorations, and this idea couldn’t be simpler!
It’s just a wooden cutting board layered with a faux wreath and a candle in the center.
I quickly tucked some yellow flowers and Fall-colored berries into the plain greenery wreath to bring some sunflower yellow into the mix.
Faux pumpkins in groups of three flank the centerpiece and trail down the middle of the table.

Woven chargers under layered white plates, yellow paper napkins, and white cloth napkins with wooden napkin rings finish off the look.
The table runner was sewn last year for the simple boho tablescape I made.

That wraps up the Fall home tour at my house.
Add Sunflower Yellow to Cheer Up Your Front Door Entryway!
A pot of sunflower yellow fall mums or a simple fall wreath with faux sunflowers can be beautiful, easy ways to add cozy decor to your front porch or entryway.
