Create cheerful Spring throw pillows in less than 10 minutes with free printables and iron on transfer paper. This crafting endeavor is both simple and enjoyable!
Last week, the Spring urge struck me, prompting a desire to tidy and refresh my home with a bright feel!
I swept, organized, and rearranged, eventually reaching the stage of fluffing the cushions on the sofa.
I needed a fresh look for the pillows.
However, local shops lacked my desired items. Moreover, after significantly downsizing, I've opted solely for pillow covers. My restricted storage area simply cannot accommodate four seasons of pillows!
So, I tapped into my creativity to devise a solution. Here is what I managed to produce.

Materials Required for iron on transfer paper pillows
- Avery Iron On Transfers (I utilized Avery Iron on Transfers for dark fabric #3279 since it was the only local option. It worked well, though they offer paper for light fabrics too.)
- White Pillow Covers – (I purchased two 20 x 20 inch Ikea “Gurli” covers for $4.99 at the store, but you can find them here. I wonder why the online price is higher?)
- Iron
- Free Printables (Join VIP status to access my complete library of free printables!)
Guide to Spring Pillow Covers Using Transfer Paper Step-by-Step.

Unlike many iron on transfer crafts, a cricket machine is unnecessary here! Simply use your home printer to print the chosen design onto the Avery iron on transfer paper.
I created a set of potted plant free printables for this project. You can find this and all other free printables in the VIP Printable Resource Library by clicking here. (If you aren't a VIP, click here to join!!)

- Cut the border around the design and remove the backing from the iron on transfer paper.

Ensure you trim very close to the design's edge so minimal white shows through, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the white pillow.

After trimming, lift the backing paper. I found this tricky until I learned to gently tear an edge to begin; after that, it peeled away easily.
- Apply heat to set the transfer image using an iron.

Per the manufacturer's instructions, iron on a hard surface with a pillowcase beneath (not an ironing board!). Set the iron to high heat and ensure the steam function is off.
Iron out all creases from the pillow cover and position the transfer precisely in the center of the pillow.
Lay tissue paper over the transfer, then press down firmly on the design, moving the iron slowly across the entire area. I maintained the heat on these transfers for roughly 2 minutes.
- Allow the design to cool for 2 minutes before handling it.

Once the design has been heated for the recommended time, lift off the iron and let it cool for about 2 minutes.

- Peel off the tissue top and it’s finished!
Enjoy your newly crafted Spring pillow masterpiece!
