Easy Ruffled Wreath Craft

Reading through various creative wreath ideas throughout the year is something I genuinely enjoy. However, up until this point, I had never actually attempted to create one myself. (The only exception was a previous attempt using real greenery, which, if I recall correctly, ended up looking quite unsightly.)

While working on the decor for our entryway, I realized I needed a way to fill some empty space. Since I have never worked with this particular color scheme before, I found myself needing to think beyond the usual items in my collection.

I ultimately decided to attempt creating a wreath.

The main obstacle was that I did not actually own a wreath form.

Furthermore, I had no intention of traveling into town anytime soon. For me, a trip to town involves a $25 ferry ride and a minimum of two hours of my time. It seemed rather illogical to go through all that effort just to find a wreath form at the Dollar Store!

Consequently, I began searching through my surroundings for any item that might serve the purpose.

Please hold onto your horses, as the first picture is genuinely quite unsightly~

wreath form

Behold! My wreath form. Isn’t it stunning?? I am actually not entirely certain what it consists of. It appears to be some type of foam insulation designed to cover pipes. (This material can be purchased in lengths at any hardware store.) I straightened out a wire hanger, threaded it through the tube, twisted the ends together, and tucked one end in. Then, I utilized my son’s extensive duct tape collection (Thank you, Brad!) to secure it in place. While the hanger provides the structural shape, the tube itself was somewhat crushed in certain areas.

Therefore, I wrapped the entire structure in a length of two-inch wide canvas drop cloth.

To my surprise, it is already starting to look much better...

I placed a long strip of fabric across the top of my newly covered form and pleated it to create a ruffle. At each point where a pleat folded in, I secured it using a thumbtack.

Afterward, I smoothed the fabric over to ensure the tacks were completely hidden.

Once the project was complete, I held it up and strategically added additional tacks (positioned underneath) to prevent some of the ruffles from flopping down.

My sister-in-law generously taught me how to create neat music sheet ornaments this past summer. (I plan to share that tutorial at a later date.) I affixed them to the wreath using stick pins.

Furthermore, I covered up the stick pins with a sparkling central piece.

A ribbon tied at the top served as the hanger.

I believe that adding some fabric flowers would also be a lovely option for this wreath if you happen to lack paper ornaments.

At this moment, I simply need to locate a few more sparkling, silver, gray, or white accents to complete the finishing touches for my entryway...
