The transformation of my compact townhouse living room starts right now, and I eagerly await the results in 6 weeks!
In my preceding post, I mentioned this One Room Challenge Project and how initial indecision slowed things down.
I have followed the twice-yearly room redesign event by Calling it Home for several years. Participating bloggers select a room and completely revamp it over a 6-week span.
When planning my blogging schedule, I incorporated a room makeover to align with this event, allowing me to join the excitement.
This initial entry serves to reveal the room I'm tackling and detail the proposed plans and design.
However, there is a caveat.
I lack polished 3-D renderings or mood boards, despite how appealing that would be!
What I possess, though, is the specific room for this endeavor:
The One Room Challenge Project ~ Townhouse Living Room
If you are a dedicated One Room Challenger, you might recognize this space from before.
I actually worked on this two years ago, commencing just one week after moving into this townhouse.
Current Strengths and Aspects I Appreciate in the Room
Before any makeover, I prefer to assess what is already succeeding and what requires modification.
Here are the elements I cherish:
The Billy Bookcase system
This sturdy piece from Ikea is invaluable in this limited area; I adore it. Its doors cleverly conceal my office supplies, books, and family photo albums.
The Office Desk Nook
After testing my desk area in roughly 5 different spots throughout the house, this location proved ideal—it is bright and offers a view of the neighbors! :)
The Entryway Closet and Doors
Converting our unattractive bi-fold closet doors into french doors was our first undertaking in this house; I still value its appearance and functionality.
The Dining Room Table and Buffet
Because they originated from the farmhouse where I grew up, I feel a strong connection to my dining room table and buffet, and I genuinely love their look! :)
Areas for Revision or Enhancement (My Action List)
Acquiring new seating, specifically a couch and potentially chairs
Replacing my couch is necessary as it looks aged despite being cherished; this choice is quite stressful.
Consider adding a new Area Rug
An area rug is wonderful for unifying a space, and I am eager to select one!
Establish a focal point with the Billy Bookcase
While I adore the billy bookcase placement, minor adjustments could greatly alter the room's ambiance and style.
Use an element to separate the living and dining areas
Arranging this space is challenging because the living room and dining room blend; I aim for a clear division without clutter.
Might a different paint hue in the dining room be suitable?
Despite loving the moody Wrought Iron shade, a change might be due; that decision remains for later.
Paint the interior surfaces of the exterior doors
The faded cream on the exterior doors has been pending; it clashes with the sharp Simply White wall paint.
Paint the desk
This should be an enjoyable task; since the desk is small, giving it a fresh coat will complement the room's evolving feel!
I cannot claim all decisions are finalized, as I am working in real time and online supply ordering affects the timeline.
However, I will share this transformation journey with you as it unfolds.
