Easy Budget Tips to Brighten Your Home This Spring

In this post: Transform your living space into a fresh environment with these 5 easy and budget-friendly methods to renew your home for the season!

With the sun beginning to linger longer on the West Coast, I’m feeling eager for the arrival of Spring.

When I polled my Instagram followers about their main obstacle when sprucing up their homes for the new season, the overwhelming response was definitely cost!!

Friends, updating your space doesn’t have to break the bank. It can actually be accomplished at no cost if you opt to do it yourself. Here are some of my top picks for injecting new energy into worn-out rooms.

5 Simple and Affordable Ways to refresh your home for Spring (without spending any money!)

5 Easy & Budget-Friendly Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

1. Give it a polish

I’ll be the first to admit that while I enjoy a tidy house, I don’t deep clean on a routine basis. The sight of dust bunnies catching the sun rays under the sofa is my biggest motivator when Spring shows up.

Get your preferred cleaning tools, play some upbeat tunes, work efficiently, and give your space a makeover.

Here’s my go-to cleaning schedule:

  • Relocate all chairs and petite furniture from the room.
  • Take small carpets outside and set them aside while you attend to the flooring.
  • Vacuum the floors thoroughly, utilizing the tool to reach the crevices.
  • Scrub the floors with your preferred mopping apparatus.
  • Remove all decorations and knick-knacks from every surface. Relocate them if you can. Wipe down and dust all surfaces meticulously.
  • Get your preferred window cleaning cloths and make those panes gleam. (I’m a huge admirer of the Norwex envirocloth cleaning kit. Here’s my method for storing my special Norwex cloths.)
  • If you love aromatherapy, retrieve your go-to Spring fragrance (my pick is lemon) and ignite it.

Glance about. Doesn’t your area already feel more inviting and bright?

2. Reorganize & Switch Up the Furniture

Often, the most significant change to a room comes from editing the existing pieces. Especially during Spring and Summer, it’s lovely to have zones that feel spacious, breathable, and light. Removing things might be the ideal strategy to accomplish that ambiance.

Nothing revitalizes a space quite like moving the furniture around. Shift the sofa to another wall. Swap a living room chair for a pair residing in the bedroom. Transform a dresser into an entryway console. Reconsider the layout of your entire home and play your own ‘mix and match’ game!

3. Clear out and simplify

After removing small decorative objects in the initial stage, now is the moment to review them; examine your decor items closely and determine if you still genuinely adore each piece or if it reflects your current style, and if not, consider selling it locally or donating it, using any earnings to acquire decor you desire now.

Additionally, take a look at all the furnishings within each room; this is an excellent time to evaluate everything, and if it no longer pleases you or is unnecessary, discard it, as removing surplus clutter invariably makes a space feel more inviting.

4. Source decor from your home

During this phase, I visit my seasonal decor storage and other areas to select pieces that will give the space a revitalized appearance; many decor items I possess for years feel fresh when rearranged or positioned in new locations.

Furthermore, check your kitchen for fresh, new decorative accents; white pitchers, bowls, and floral teacups are excellent choices for Spring and Summer.

5. Incorporate nature

Introducing natural elements always brings more vitality to a room; clip greenery from your backyard, or use beautiful branches with buds, tulips, daffodils, or ferns to create charming daffodil flower arrangements in mere minutes; if you lack these, check your local grocery store for tulips or fresh Spring flowers, which cost less than a Starbucks drink and brighten your room for weeks, with ideas for grocery store flower arrangements.

Another possibility is utilizing free printable artwork featuring florals and flowers; you can view how I transformed some new printables into art and pillows here (to obtain the printable set in the above photo, ensure you register as a VIP for complete access to the free printables library!).

BONUS: Concentrate on one area at a time

Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the massive undertaking of refreshing your entire house simultaneously, tackle it one step or one room at a time.

Here are some helpful strategies for me as I navigate this process:

  • Target a few main spots for seasonal adjustments.

To avoid feeling swamped by redecorating every space for each season, select only a few key focal points that are simple to alter; for a living room, this might be the arrangement above the couch or throw pillows, while in a bedroom, it could simply involve changing to fresh white sheets; prioritize what matters most to you and remain consistent.

  • If decor inspiration is lacking, note what appeals to you in your shopping locations.

This is very important to me since I cannot afford to buy everything new each season (though it is fine if you can!); however, observing decor trends and attractive items in stores costs nothing, and you might spot something similar you already own that you adore!

Alternatively, select one standout piece to anchor your seasonal decor; this Spring, I chose a floral table runner as my inspiration, which cost $25 at the HomeSense down island, and built the entire scheme around it, using mostly items already in my home.

Because it features a lovely, fresh green hue, I designated that as my accent color, weaving touches of green throughout the room.

Excluding a few greenery sprigs and 2 bunches of faux tulips from Micheals, every element used for the Spring refresh in the room was already present in my house.

Wishing you a bright and sunny Spring day, Friends!
