Natural Spider Deterrent for Home Decor

Horse chestnuts offer natural spider defense alongside lovely decoration

While I don't panic at spiders (unless it's a mouse!), I do find their presence somewhat bothersome.

It appears they become more frequent inside my residence during late summer and early Fall; this is not what I desire!

A friend mentioned a natural spider repellent a few years ago, which I have since been utilizing.

A wonderful aspect of this repellent is its dual function as home decor.

Could anything surpass that combination?

Employ Horse Chestnuts for Natural Spider Deterrence

Display horse chestnuts while they retain their green hue for a vibrant accent.

Allow me to present these small wonders:

Locally, we refer to them as “horse chestnuts” (or conkers); I discovered them in the small woods beneath my house, and my youngest son retrieved some recently.

These grow on a tree and are not safe for consumption. If you have pets, please consult your veterinarian before bringing them inside, as they may be poisonous and could cause serious harm if eaten raw. (Perhaps this is why spiders avoid them?)

Some might dismiss this natural method as folklore, but I was in need and it proved effective for me!

Each autumn when the temperature drops and spiders seek warmth indoors, I place these little nuts around.

The bathroom windowsill is often the initial spot they appear, so that is where I start.

I arrange them like tiny, valiant sentinels, and they look quite beautiful in the light.

Even after the green outer casing detaches, the tough brown shell remains a natural repellent for spiders.

Fresh from the tree, they are green with a textured shell; as they dry, the outer shell cracks and drops, revealing this appearance:

I genuinely find them quite attractive in bowls, scattering them throughout my home. Occasionally, I place them on a large platter with a substantial candle centered—it creates a lovely, 'Fall' atmosphere.

I never noticed such a plentiful supply of green ones before, but they look stunning in jars too:

I am uncertain where they can be acquired. {Does anyone have information?}

However, I have more Autumn Decor concepts for you! Here they are:

A quick note: If you message me claiming horse chestnuts failed, please know I am not a scientist and possess no scientific validation for this technique. I am simply a homemaker seeking effortless, pest-free living. While it might feel like a placebo, I genuinely believe this small tip is effective; however, outcomes are certainly not assured.
