Settling Into a New Home Easily

Just two days before moving in, we toured every corner of our new residence, leaving little time for thoughtful placement planning!

We often tease each other about my tendency to shift furniture around; during those initial few months, I was rearranging the entire house!!

With time, we identified which arrangements were successful and which ones simply did not work.

I genuinely enjoy tackling challenges to find solutions; for practical home functionality, particularly in an older dwelling, this often requires inventive, non-standard approaches.

Below are three instances from our home.

1. The Dining Space:

This room, opposite the Living Room, was originally designed as a bedroom and later used by previous owners as a family area. Since we needed a spot for our Dining Table and buffet, we converted it into a Dining Room. Although slightly unconventional, this choice proved highly effective from the outset.

2. The Pantry {in the Living Room!}

We soon noticed the kitchen lacked adequate pantry storage. Since I preferred not to keep food in our cool, damp basement, the Living Room closet was modified to serve as the new “pantry.” It is conveniently close to the kitchen and works perfectly.

3. The Basement Craft Area

I needed a dedicated spot to keep and organize my crafting supplies. After exploring several possibilities, we found the perfect location in the basement, situated across from the washer and dryer.

A major realization in home styling for me was the necessity of ~ patience!

Understanding the house and how we utilized it was the crucial first step toward making it feel like home. Before considering paint shades, furniture placement, or wall art, we first ensured the house's flow aligned with our lifestyle.

We needed time to unpack, settle in, and pay attention to the house~

This process also guided our design choices.
