My appreciation for botanical art predates finding free printable botanical art.

Some time ago, I conceived of producing my own botanical prints using genuine fern leaves and our scanner.

Instead of employing paint for leaf printing art, I was inspired by pressed flower art and chose a much simpler and faster wall decoration concept.

I merely set fern leaves onto our household photocopier and printed them!

Easy Fern Leaf Printing Art Without Paint Instructions

Materials Needed

  • Authentic fern leaves
  • Household photocopier
  • Cardstock

Straightforward, step-by-step guide

Usually, leaf printing art involves painting the leaf and then pressing the painted leaf onto paper to achieve a stamp-like design.

An alternative method for leaf art is pressing and drying them, then adhering them to paper with modge podge.

This wall art approach is significantly less involved!

  1. Trim the fern leaves to the desired dimensions for your art piece.
  2. Place the leaf on the top of your photocopier, ensuring it is clean of any dust or smudges.

3. Cover the leaf with a white sheet of cardstock, close the lid, and initiate the copy function.

There you have it! Art in just 5 minutes!

Assemble a gallery wall using diverse prints.

I created 6 small ferns and displayed them in simple black {$1.00} frames. A note on the frames, however: I was extremely pleased finding them for $1. Yet, they were remarkably odd frames! I actually had to dismantle the frame to remove the glass… Next time, I will exercise greater caution when purchasing a 'bargain'.

Additional ways to adapt this fern leaf printing art concept

  • Use different varieties of fern leaves and do more than one per print. Add the botanical name at the bottom in pretty handwriting using a fine tipped black marker.
  • Use your computer printers scanner device and scan the leaf image into your computer and digitally edit and enhance it to get the look you’d like.
  • Rather than using fern leaves, use any colored leaves from the Fall season for beautiful Fall leaf art.
