This simple Oreo ice cream cake recipe incorporates a chocolate Oreo base, smooth vanilla ice cream, and a warm hot fudge drizzle, bypassing the need for a springform pan or ice cream sandwiches! It is ideal for summer gatherings.

My high school friend first shared this recipe with me ages ago, and it brought back memories from our trip to Hawaii when we enjoyed Hula Pie. The flavors are quite comparable.
Reasons to Adore This Recipe
Unlike certain ice cream cake preparations, this version does not necessitate a springform pan or the use of ice cream sandwiches.
It comes together rapidly and effortlessly in a 9 x 13 pan using just a handful of components. I enjoy preparing it beforehand and storing it in the freezer for a summer birthday or any special event.
You can customize it easily by incorporating any desired toppings (see variations below), or even transform it into a delightful ice cream cake bar setup for self-serving.
Being a no-bake sweet treat, you avoid warming up your kitchen while preparing it!

Required Components
(For precise measurements, please consult the printable recipe card located at the end of this post.)
- chocolate baking crumbs – I appreciate the ease of using ready-made chocolate crumbs; however, I usually enhance their sweetness slightly to my preference.
- oreo cookies – Crushing oreo cookies contributes the perfect sweetness to the chocolate crumbs for the foundation. Alternatively, using only crushed oreos for the initial layer is also wonderfully tasty! (Note: This turtle pie also features a delicious oreo crust!)
- melted butter – Mixing melted, slightly cooled butter into the cookie crumbs and pressing it into the pan's base creates a superb foundation for this frozen dessert.
- vanilla ice cream – Do not assume vanilla ice cream is dull; feel free to substitute any ice cream flavor you favor! Other options include mint chip, chocolate chip cookie dough, or chocolate fudge, but the flavor choices are vast—choose what you love.
- hot fudge sauce – While store-bought hot fudge sauce is available, my homemade version is my preference due to its incredible richness!
- toppings – For a vibrant and appealing cake this time, I adorned the top with colored mini M&Ms, chopped nuts, and crushed oreo crumbs. Any nut variety works; I used chopped almonds this time, though chopped peanuts are also excellent.

Serving and Slicing the Oreo Cookie Ice Cream Cake

- Take the cake from the freezer and allow it to rest on the counter for roughly 10 to 15 minutes prior to cutting.
- When ready to serve, heat a sharp knife by pouring boiling water over it, and position a hot cloth beneath the pan; this warm cloth aids in releasing the cookie crust, and the heated knife simplifies the cutting process.
- Utilize a small metal spatula to gently separate the initial slice; subsequent pieces will then detach without difficulty.
- Just before presenting, drizzle a bit of hot fudge sauce so it flows down the sides.
- Present extra toppings so guests may customize their portions.
- Canned whipped cream adorned with maraschino cherries creates a delightful visual appeal.

Keeping It Fresh
Keep the ice cream cake securely wrapped in plastic wrap in the freezer until it is time to serve.
Helpful advice: Completely open the ice cream container and slice it!
I recall seeing my mother prepare this as a child, and I found it truly amazing! Instead of scooping the ice cream for the ice cream layer, open the entire ice cream container to reach the whole block. Then, use a big knife to cut it and arrange the pieces onto the chocolate cookie crust. It is remarkably fast and simple!

Oreo Ice Cream Cake
Layered with a chocolate and oreo base, vanilla ice cream, and topped with luscious hot fudge sauce and m&ms, this straightforward oreo ice cream cake offers wonderful flavor and takes only minutes to put together.
Ingredients
Method
- Reduce 8 Oreo biscuits to a fine powder using a rolling pin inside a sealed bag, though a food processor offers the swiftest method for achieving a uniform texture.
- Mix together the 1 cup of chocolate cookie crumbs, 1/2 cup oreo crumbs, and 1/3 cup butter that has been melted and slightly cooled. Reserve the rest of the crushed oreos to sprinkle on the top.
- Distribute the chocolate and Oreo crumb blend across the base of a 9 by 13 inch baking dish and compact it gently using your palm or a flat-bottomed mug to ensure full coverage.
- Permit the frozen treat to sit for fifteen to twenty minutes, or until it reaches a pliable consistency. Subsequently, transfer the ice cream onto the Oreo base via scooping or slicing, then compact it firmly with a rubber spatula to create a uniform surface that reaches the pan's interior edges.
- Proceed by distributing mini M&Ms across the softened ice cream surface and pressing them in lightly. Maintain a rapid pace to prevent premature melting.
- After adorning the ice cream layer with your preferred additions, pour the warm fudge sauce over the top.
- Finish by scattering additional M&Ms, chopped nuts, and Oreo crumbs over the final surface.
- Seal the dish firmly with cling film and place it in the freezer for a minimum of two hours, or until the dessert has solidified completely.
Notes
Take the dessert from the deep freeze and allow it to rest on the countertop for roughly 10 to 15 minutes prior to slicing.
When prepared to serve, pour scalding water over a sharp blade, and situate a heated cloth beneath the container. The warm cloth assists in releasing the cookie base, and the heated knife facilitates much simpler cutting.
Utilize a small metal spatula to loosen the initial piece. Once that piece is removed, the remaining sections will slide out effortlessly.
Apply a small amount of molten chocolate sauce just before serving so it flows gracefully down the sides.
Display supplementary garnishes so visitors can personalize their portions with additional additions.
A topping of canned frosting adorned with red candied fruit would create a beautiful display.
